Monotch has joined Data for Road Safety (DFRS), the European ecosystem for exchanging safety-related traffic information between public authorities, road operators, vehicle manufacturers, automotive suppliers and mobility service providers.
Announcing the move on 19 October, the company said that, supported by its TLEX platform, it will make additional public-authority data available within DFRS and turn data from across the ecosystem into safety information for connected road users. Monotch joins as both a data provider and a service creator.
Public-authority data added to DFRS
Monotch will make complementary safety-related data from public authorities connected to TLEX available within DFRS. The company says this data will add to, rather than duplicate, information already supplied by existing public-authority participants.
Subject to agreements with the relevant data owners, the data could include information about:
- short-term roadworks
- unprotected accident areas
- obstacles on the road
- slippery road conditions
- reduced visibility
- exceptional weather conditions
Monotch will use TLEX to process and combine data available within DFRS, make the resulting safety information available to vehicle manufacturers and mobility service providers, and share these services back with the DFRS ecosystem.
According to Monotch, TLEX can connect a roadworks data feed once and make the resulting safety information available to multiple vehicle manufacturers and service providers through interoperable interfaces. This reduces the need for separate point-to-point integrations between individual data providers and recipients.

Real-time use cases already running
Monotch says its contribution builds on its operational experience exchanging real-time data between road authorities, roadside infrastructure, service providers and road users. TLEX currently handles billions of real-time message exchanges each month and supports connected safety use cases including Road Works Warning and Emergency Vehicle Approaching (EVA).
In the EVA use case, real-time information about approaching emergency vehicles can be shared with service providers so that drivers can be warned in advance.
“At Monotch, we make traffic talk by enabling reliable, real-time data exchange between road authorities, service providers and vehicles,” says Menno Malta, chief executive and founder of Monotch. “Joining DFRS allows us to scale that exchange across Europe and turn existing safety data into timely warnings that reach road users when it matters most.”
DFRS view
“DFRS depends on participants that not only make safety data available but also help turn it into information that can reach road users,” says Joost Vantomme, chair of the DFRS General Assembly and chief executive of ERTICO – ITS Europe. “By joining as both a Data Provider and Service Creator, Monotch brings valuable connections to public authorities and proven real-time data exchange capabilities that can help scale trusted safety information across Europe.”

Euro NCAP link raises demand from manufacturers
The announcement comes as safety-related data sharing becomes part of vehicle assessment in Europe. Through a formal collaboration between DFRS and Euro NCAP, the European New Car Assessment Programme, Local Hazard warnings and data sharing are included in Euro NCAP’s 2026 Safe Driving Vehicle Assistance Protocol.
Vehicle manufacturers are now expected to demonstrate that they share and use relevant safety data as part of the assessment process, and Euro NCAP encourages them to use DFRS as the reference cloud for this exchange.
Monotch says that, through DFRS, it aims to strengthen the connection between the road authorities that generate safety-relevant information and the vehicle manufacturers and service providers that can deliver warnings to road users.

About the organisations
DFRS is a European public-private collaboration that aims to improve road safety by maximising the reach of safety-related traffic information generated by vehicles and road infrastructure. Its decentralised ecosystem allows public authorities, road operators, vehicle manufacturers, automotive suppliers and service providers to exchange safety data under a common contractual and technical framework.
Monotch, founded in 2015, is the company behind TLEX, a real-time data-sharing layer that connects road infrastructure, road users, applications, AI models and data exchange networks.
