Los Angeles Metro has selected mobility solutions provider Moovit to power a new unified transit app, consolidating six standalone applications into a single platform ahead of a series of major international events, including the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off this week.
The LA Metro app integrates bus, rail, subway, on-demand rideshare, bikes, scooters and car-share into one platform, offering trip planning, contactless payment, real-time information, live directions and service alerts. The app is available in 45 languages and includes accessibility features designed to support passengers across the disability spectrum.
The launch comes as Los Angeles prepares to host a significant concentration of large-scale events over the next two years, including Super Bowl LXI and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028. Metro said the app is a critical part of its strategy to digitally enhance its transport network for both everyday commuters and the millions of international visitors expected during that period.
Gil Balog, Moovit’s chief operating officer, said, “As Los Angeles is preparing to welcome the world, we’re proud to partner with Metro at this historic moment. Moovit has guided more than one billion users across 112 countries and has helped cities manage both daily mobility and the demands of global events like the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. We’re bringing that scale, innovation, and on-the-ground expertise to Los Angeles to deliver a world-class transit app, keeping residents moving, visitors exploring, and fans connected when it matters most.”
