PTV Group, part of Umovity, has been selected by ST Engineering Urban Solutions as a subcontractor for Abu Dhabi’s state-of-the-art Multimodal Intelligent Transportation Central Platform.
PTV will support the development of this new traffic management platform by providing the central real-time traffic prediction engine that powers the platform’s core operations.
This advanced traffic management system represents a significant leap forward in Abu Dhabi’s approach to transportation. The integration of multiple subsystems and data sources into a centralized multimodal platform will empower the Emirate to implement multimodal transport strategies through automated response plans.
A key module of this transformative system is the real-time short-term traffic prediction solution PTV Optima.
Beyond facilitating live traffic monitoring and incident detection through integration with Abu Dhabi’s adaptive signal control system, PTV Optima employs AI technology and dynamic traffic modeling. This combination allows for calculated traffic flow estimations and forecasts of queues and delays up to 60 minutes in advance.
Moreover, the software allows operators to simulate and evaluate various mitigation strategies in a virtual environment, fostering proactive traffic management, faster incident response times, and improved traffic flow across the entire emirate.
“We are proud to have been selected by ST Engineering Urban Solutions as a key partner and look forward to contributing to the long-term success of Abu Dhabi’s traffic management system,” said Christian U Haas, CEO of PTV Group.
“As part of Umovity, and in collaboration with our sister company Econolite, we bring extensive ITS expertise, integrating both cutting-edge software and hardware solutions. I anticipate many synergies that will drive the project forward and create even greater momentum,” Haas added.
Starting with road traffic management, the platform will eventually integrate other modes of transport, including rail networks, as the project progresses. This aligns with Abu Dhabi’s Transportation Mobility Management Strategy 2030, which aims to enhance the Emirate’s public transport system, manage traffic growth, and alleviate road congestion to meet the challenges of projected population growth.
