Jenoptik has been awarded a contract by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) to supply more than 140 intersection safety camera systems as part of ICBC’s Intersection Safety Camera Program, which aims to improve safety at signalised intersections across the Canadian province.
Under the agreement, Jenoptik Canada will deliver, implement and install the systems, which combine red light violation detection with speed on green detection. The cameras will be supported by the company’s FlowTris back-office platform, which will handle the capture, processing and management of enforcement data generated by the programme.
Red light and speed on green detection
Combining the two functions allows each installation to monitor vehicles entering an intersection against a red signal and vehicles exceeding the speed limit as they pass through on green. The FlowTris platform is intended to provide a secure workflow for administering the programme, from the point of capture through to processing and data management.
Intersection safety camera programmes are designed to encourage compliance with traffic laws at signalised intersections. By reducing high-risk driving behaviour, they aim to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

Coast-to-coast footprint and new Vancouver office
With the British Columbia contract, Jenoptik says it now has installations from coast to coast in Canada. The company is also opening a new office in Vancouver, which it says will bring more jobs to the local community.
