TomTom and Aimsun have announced a strategic partnership designed to help cities and transport authorities deliver faster, smarter mobility solutions by combining mapping expertise with advanced simulation technology.

The collaboration integrates TomTom’s mapping and traffic data with Aimsun’s transport simulation tools, headlined by the new Aimsun Start ready-to-calibrate model. This innovation enables transport modelers to bypass weeks of manual setup and launch projects immediately using simulation-ready models built from accurate network geometry and origin-destination matrices.

Customers now receive ready-to-calibrate transport models within five working days, allowing calibration and analysis to begin immediately. The service eliminates time-consuming manual coding and data collection through high-quality, data-driven inputs that reflect actual traffic patterns and current network conditions.

The new partnership delivers flexibility and scalability, with TomTom’s comprehensive data coverage enabling models to adapt from single corridors to entire cities. Cost savings are achieved by reducing reliance on expensive field surveys, while all network and demand data comes from trusted, high-fidelity sources ensuring consistency across projects.

Aimsun Start is already proving its value globally, according to the firm. SCT Consulting in the Australian Capital Territory used the pre-coded, data-rich simulation environment to respond rapidly to client needs, achieving faster project delivery, lower data collection costs, and a reliable foundation with high-resolution network geometry and GPS-derived demand matrices.

Ian McCarthy, Aimsun CEO, emphasized the partnership’s impact: “With Aimsun Start – powered by our collaboration with TomTom – we’re helping customers modernize their modelling workflows, reduce setup time, improve data accuracy, and enhance decision-making quality.”

The companies plan to expand TomTom’s data integration into Aimsun’s real-time tools, advancing mobility intelligence and supporting the transition to safer, more efficient, and sustainable network operations. Aimsun operates under both Solution Provider and Distributor Agreements with TomTom, ensuring competitive pricing and flexible sourcing options.
