Kapsch TrafficCom has been awarded a contract to modernise and digitally transform the Dominican Republic’s national tolling system, upgrading 20 toll plazas and 183 lanes across the country using its SmartToll platform.

The project is commissioned by RD Vial, the state-owned entity responsible for operating and developing the Dominican Republic’s primary road network, and represents one of the largest SmartToll deployments in Kapsch TrafficCom’s toll plaza operations portfolio. Under the contract, the Vienna, Austria-headquartered company will also provide maintenance and support services to ensure long-term operational continuity and future platform enhancements.

Regional expansion

“This project marks an important step in the modernisation of tolling infrastructure in the Dominican Republic,” says Ramiro Virreira, executive vice-president for Latin America at Kapsch TrafficCom. “It highlights the strength of our technology, our extensive international tolling expertise, and our strong presence across Latin America and the Caribbean.

“We are proud to support RD Vial in building a future-ready tolling ecosystem that will enhance efficiency and customer experience for road users.”

The contract reinforces Kapsch TrafficCom’s role as a partner in the ongoing evolution of mobility and transportation infrastructure throughout Central America and the Caribbean. According to the company, its proposal stood out for the robustness and scalability of its solution, its extensive global expertise in tolling systems, its established regional footprint, and its proven ability to deliver projects of this scale and complexity.
