Phoenix, Arizona, USA downtown cityscape at dusk

This week (April 22-25) the eyes of the smart mobility world are focused on Phoenix, Arizona, as the ITS America Conference & Expo 2024 is being held at the city’s Convention Center.

As ever, the event is bringing together industry leaders, practitioners, policymakers, and researchers from across the public and private sectors, with a common aim of advancing ITS. Two technical tours – to the MCDOT SmartDrive Connected Vehicle Testbed and to the ADOT Traffic Operations Center – were held yesterday (April 22) with the Conference & Expo proper kicking off today (Tuesday April 2).

The exhibition hall will host over 170 organizations showcasing their latest technology, while the conference will feature over 100 different sessions, covering all aspects of ITS – including connected and automated technologies, equity and accessibility, innovative uses of big data, the impact of pandemics on transportation, supply chain and logistics, security, and much more – with an overall, uniting theme of ‘Accelerating Digital Transformation’.

Laura Chace

“Phoenix is incorporating ITS technologies to address opportunities and challenges in the future of EV adoption”

Laura Chace, President & CEO, ITS America

“At the Conference & Expo you will be able to see and discuss all the emerging technologies and solutions that are advancing mobility, saving lives, and promoting sustainability,” says ITS America president and CEO Laura Chace.

Attendees are experiencing technology demonstrations showcasing the latest in ITS innovations, providing insights into how proven technologies are evolving and scaling into solutions that can seamlessly integrate into various businesses.

Meanwhile, Phoenix is providing an inspirational location for the event, as Chace points out: “Phoenix is incorporating ITS technologies to address opportunities and challenges in the future of EV adoption and ensuring that the city prioritizes equity, accelerates public adoption of electric vehicles, and leads by example by purchasing a city fleet of electric vehicles.”

Innovation Showcase

On top of the extensive conference program, this year’s event will launch a new initiative – the ITS Innovation Showcase. This will give solution providers the chance to present their technology in front of both public and private sector professionals who have a goal of advancing mobility. On-site at the event, attendees will be able to vote in real-time for the technology that they feel best embodies the innovation that is driving the future of transportation toward increased safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

“The scope of technologies and innovation solutions in our industry continues to grow by the day,” says Chace. “We are thrilled to bring the industry together every year to develop new partnerships and continue to accelerate the future of transportation.”

Jaime McAuley

“The ITS America Conference & Expo is a must-attend event for individuals looking for new and innovative technologies and solutions in the intelligent transportation systems space,” says Jaime McAuley, ITS America Events’ director. “Phoenix is a leader in advancing transportation technology and providing safer, more affordable choices for its communities. The city provides the perfect setting to help advance the future of mobility.”

Navtech Radar: Booth 1148

360° radar incident detection

Visit Navtech to discover the best new ways to detect wrong-way drivers on off-ramps, deploy automatic incident detection at scale, and collect vehicle count and classification data. Navtech’s ITS technology delivers multiple capabilities all from the same system so you can operate your roads more safely, efficiently, and sustainably. Its 360° long-range radar means fewer sensors are required to cover an entire freeway. No maintenance for 10+ years keeps road workers out of harm’s way and reduces traffic management-related congestion and emissions. It works when you need it most: in poor visibility, when accidents are more likely to happen. Now with cloud-based and 4G options, you can reduce the infrastructure needed to deploy comprehensive AID and traffic data solutions, while integrating seamlessly.

Valerann: Booth 573

Data Fusion

Fresh from winning the Inspiration Award at Intertraffic Amsterdam last week, US transportation professionals will have the chance to visit Valerann at ITS America and discover how it is redefining modern roadway operations through enabling actionable, accurate and timely data-driven decision making. Its hardware-agnostic mission-critical software integrates with the existing road infrastructure, ingests, and continuously processes data streams of any scale or structure from all available disparate sources, such as floating and connected cars, loops, radars, social media, satellites. By taking data from unrelated data sources, leveraging its sophisticated proprietary AI and computer vision algorithms, it is able to deliver sophisticated data fusion with precise event cross-validation and event prioritization thus providing certainty for road operators, helping them to transition their operations from reactive to proactive, improve road safety and achieve their KPIs.
