At a meeting in Washington DC, the Intelligent Transportation Society of America’s (ITS America) Board of Directors approved the election of three officers and 12 new members who will set policy and direct strategies for the association over the next 12 months.

The ITS America Board is made up of leaders in the intelligent transportation industry, and the newly elected members represent a diverse group of senior-level executives from private companies, public agencies and academia. ITS America’s new officers are:

• Chair – Malcolm Dougherty (right), senior vice president and transportation national practice lead at the Michael Baker International consultancy, a long-standing ITS America board member who has also been director of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans);

• Vice Chair – Jennifer Cohan (below right), secretary of the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), who has a 27-year public service career in the state, including heading the Department of Motor Vehicles;

• Secretary – Steve Dellenback (bottom right), vice president of the intelligent systems division at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), where he leads work in intelligent vehicles, robotics and cybersecurity.

The new board members for the private sector are:

• John Barton, senior vice president at HNTB, who has more than 30-years of experience, serving in leadership roles at the Texas DOT and Texas A&M University System;

• Ed Bradley, program manager for product regulatory affairs and safety at Toyota, who focuses on developing technologies and regulations to support connected and automated vehicle systems;

• Dr Robert Edelstein, ITS practice leader at AECOM, who brings more than 40 years of experience on infrastructure planning and projects;

• Mick Slattery, CEO of Conduent Transportation, who has nearly three decades of experience in providing public transportation and mobility solutions;

• Laurette Stiles, VP of strategic resources at State Farm, who has more than 30-years of experience in the insurance industry;

• Dan Turton, North America vice president for public policy at General Motors, where he oversees the automaker’s relationships with all executive branch and congressional officials;

• Desi Ujkashevic, global director of automotive safety engineering at Ford, who focuses on sustainability, advanced mobility and new market development;

• Jarrett Wendt, executive vice president and head of CityNOW at Panasonic North America, who currently leads its Smart City initiative, corporate partnerships and connected vehicle business.

New board members from the public sector and academia:

• Kathleen Bower, senior vice president of public affairs and international relations at the AAA, who directs its efforts to improve mobility and enhance safety for the traveling public;

• Jeff Marootian, director of the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) since early 2017, who was previously part of the USDOT’s leadership team;

• Carrie Morton, deputy director of MCity at the University of Michigan, with extensive experience of connected and automated vehicles;

• Joanna Pinkerton, president and CEO of Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA), with extensive experience in mobility, cross-sector collaboration and economic development in the transportation industry.

“This new group of board members is very forward-thinking and shares our belief that intelligent transportation technology will save lives and improve mobility,” said ITS America’s president and CEO, Shailen Bhatt. “We are thrilled to have them join us in this critical work.”
