Canadian company Vizzion, provider of the world’s largest network of traffic cameras, is expanding its partnership with Here Technologies, an open location platform operation and a leading provider of real-time traffic information.
Vizzion is now supplying the Here Traffic Operations Center with global traffic camera imagery and video feeds through the Desktop Video Wall application. The partnership will bring Vizzion’s network of over 60,000 live traffic cameras into the hands of traffic editors at the Here Operations Center in Chicago. Here uses traffic camera feeds to locate, understand, and report real-time traffic incident information in markets around the world. Built to support traffic editors, Vizzion’s Desktop Video Wall system helps users visualize incidents and the causes of delays, to create more accurate traffic information.
The Desktop Video Wall was developed in 2014 when Here was looking for a solution with more customizable camera displays and flexible organization-wide licensing. Since then, Vizzion’s coverage has doubled to over 60,000 cameras in 37 countries across six continents. Through partnerships with more than 180 different transport agencies worldwide, the company offers live feeds from roadside cameras across North America, Europe, Asia, Australasia, and from key markets in South America and Africa. The service is available through a flexible XML web service and its turnkey Desktop Video Wall software, with the streaming content trusted by major digital, broadcast, traffic, fleet, and automotive organizations worldwide.
By viewing the live traffic camera feeds through the Desktop Video Wall, users get a comprehensive, real-time view of what is happening on the roadway, including flow speeds, incidents, construction, weather, congestion and all other activities. Cameras can be displayed in a map view or users can efficiently build custom camera catalogs. The easy-to-use design of the application enables both interactive and hands-free use and each application is personalized according to the user’s preferences.
Here’s Real-Time Traffic service is utilized across the public and private sectors, from state, county and city Departments of Transportation (DOTs) to auto makers and fleet and logistics providers, to better inform drivers of changing conditions, create safer road conditions, and ensure people and goods move smoothly through road networks. The company’s real-time traffic data is aggregated and analyzed from numerous sophisticated sources, including high-quality vehicle sensor data, government agency portals, and historical traffic records. Here Real-Time Traffic information is available in 63 countries and is delivered with low latency connections.
“The Desktop Video Wall allows our Traffic Quality Specialists to efficiently and accurately confirm reported incidents, validate locations, and monitor the incidents from discovery to clearance,” explained Mike Dekrell, senior traffic quality manager for Here Technologies. “The Desktop Video Wall is a key piece of our overall traffic incident management toolset.”
Vizzion’s president, Chris Cooper, said, “Here was instrumental in the design of the Desktop Video Wall product and their input continues to shape our offerings as we strive to help provide the most accurate and up-to-date road condition information available worldwide.”
