The 16th ITS European Congress in Seville (May 19-31) is bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore the future of ITS. A highlight of the event is the plenary sessions, which promise to deliver insightful discussions on the theme of “Clean, Resilient, and Connected Mobility.”

Plenary 1: The Green Shift – Accelerating a Sustainable Future through ITS

Date & Time: May 19, 2025, 15:15 – 16:15

The first plenary session will focus on how ITS can drive the transition to a more sustainable society. Key topics will include urban space management through technology innovation, such as advanced kerbside management, last-mile logistics, smart charging integration, and Urban Vehicle Access Regulations (UVAR). The session will also explore the role of technologies like digital twins and artificial intelligence in reducing transport’s environmental footprint. Panellists will discuss building a green mobility future that is inclusive and competitive, examining the intersection of transport with the green economy, community engagement, equitable access, and behavioural shifts necessary to adopt clean transport technologies.

Keynote Speaker:

  • Miguel Álvarez Martínez, Director General of Mobility Strategies, Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility

Moderator:

  • Karen Vancluysen, Secretary General, POLIS Network

Speakers:

  • Tina Wagner, Director-General for Transport, City of Hamburg

Plenary 2: Resilient by Design – Shaping a Competitive Mobility Value Chain

Date & Time: May 20, 2025, 09:00 – 10:00

This session will address the urgent need for resilience in Europe’s mobility and logistics ecosystems to withstand environmental, technological, and geopolitical uncertainties. Leading actors from various sectors will discuss strengthening transport infrastructure design and usage to counteract negative externalities, improve system reliability, and enhance sustainability. The discussion will highlight innovative approaches to creating a resilient and competitive mobility value chain.

Plenary 3: Connected Mobility – Integrating Road, Rail, Air, and Waterborne Transport

Date & Time: May 21, 2025, 14:00 – 15:00

The final plenary session will explore the integration of different transport modes to create a seamless and connected mobility ecosystem. Panellists will discuss the challenges and opportunities of integrating road, rail, air, and waterborne transport, focusing on multimodality and the role of ITS in facilitating this integration. The session aims to provide insights into how connected mobility can enhance efficiency, reduce congestion, and improve the overall transport experience for users.
