Carmera to provide live mapping services for Renovo’s automated mobility ecosystem

Carmera, which has developed a real-time, street-level intelligence platform for autonomous vehicles (AVs), has joined Renovo’s AWare ecosystem to provide improved mapping solutions for future automated mobility services.

Renovo is a mobility software company accelerating innovation in Automated Mobility on Demand (AMoD). AWare is Renovo’s scalable Automated Mobility Operating System (AMOS), which merges software, data analytics, and automotive-grade safety systems into a unified solution for AMoD deployments.

The new partnership means that Automated Mobility as a Service (AMaaS) deployments built on AWare can now easily gain access to Carmera’s high-definition, 3D mapping systems and participate in the company’s vehicular sensor network.

High-definition 3D mapping technology is vital to the success of any AMaaS or AMoD deployment. Carmera is automating cities by maintaining the world’s most robust real-time, street-level intelligence platform. The company operates vehicular sensor networks via safety monitoring partnerships with high-coverage fleets, and uses machine vision and geospatial processing pipelines to produce continually updating, 3D maps for autonomous vehicle navigation, as well as built-environment planning.

CARMERA’s live maps allow automated vehicles to localize their positions with centimeter accuracy, providing intelligent path planning decisions ahead of time, optimizing for navigation efficiency, pedestrian safety and passenger experience.

Currently, Carmera crowdsources map data from a vehicle-based sensor network. With Renovo as a partner, Carmera can now deliver mapping services to AWare-powered fleets while gathering updated map data at the same time. Carmera’s machine vision and geospatial data pipelines offer Renovo’s growing number of AWare partners rich texture and insight that will prove critical to automated mobility deployments.

The massive data generated by these vehicles hold significant value to a wide range of customers, and both Renovo and Carmera are committed to unlocking this value in a secure and reliable manner.

Carmera joins the AWare ecosystem along with a growing list of leading companies in the automated mobility sector, including Samsung, Verizon, Velodyne Lidar, Parsons, Inrix and Argus Cyber Security.

Recently, Carmera announced a partnership with Voyage, a world leader in fully automated driving, to provide real-time mapping solutions for the highest mileage AMaaS deployment in the world to date at The Villages in Florida, one of the fastest-growing cities in the USA.

“Partnering with Renovo makes more than business sense for us,” said Carmera’s CEO and co-founder, Ro Gupta. “We share a mutual vision for what the automated mobility future looks like: democratized, open and scaled.

“We’re excited to be a part of the AWare ecosystem and look forward to contributing to it, and playing a key role in the automated mobility deployments that will use it.”

Renovo’s CEO and co-founder, Chris Heiser, added, “Carmera is a natural fit in the AWare ecosystem. We enable our customers to develop and deploy fleets of fully automated vehicles, and these deployments are made possible by an open ecosystem of best-in-class technologies.

“What Carmera is doing in the high definition 3D mapping space aligns with this approach. Their platform and expertise will contribute substantially toward our mission to deliver scalable AMaaS deployments built using AWare, our operating system for automated mobility.”
