The US Department of Transportation’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS JPO) has announced it is to to host a webinar titled Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Intelligent Transportation Systems on June 27, 2024, from 2:00 to 3:15 pm ET.

The webinar will focus on the potential of AI in revolutionizing the transportation sector and improving safety, mobility, equity, efficiency, and accessibility while reducing costs and environmental impacts.

Bob Sheehan

The online event will feature presentations from industry experts, including Robert Sheehan from the ITS JPO, David Hale from Leidos, Brandon Freeman from TrustThink, and Mohammed Hadi from Florida International University. They will discuss the AI-Enabled ITS Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and Readiness Checklists, which provide a comprehensive assessment tool for organizations to evaluate their readiness for incorporating AI into their ITS programs and processes.

Mena Lockwood and Candice Gibson from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will highlight the VDOT Traffic Operations Strategic Plan and discuss strategies for implementing emerging technologies such as AI. They will also showcase the Regional Multi-Modal Mobility Program’s (RM3P) recently awarded AI-Based Decision Support System (AI-DSS) project, which aims to improve collaborative responses to incidents.

Eric Hill from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will share insights on the application of AI in transportation planning and discuss the usefulness of the AI-ITS CMM. He will also explore the guidance needed for public agencies to effectively adopt AI in their operations.

The webinar is open to all interested parties, and registration is now open. Live closed captioning will be provided, and participants can request additional accessibility accommodations when registering. The deadline for accommodation requests is five business days before the live event.
