Four new members join the ERTICO Partnership

ERTICO ITS Europe’s supervisory board has approved the application of four new organizations to join its cooperative Partnership platform.

The ERTICO Partnership consists of over 100 public/private members across eight different sectors, all working towards bringing intelligence into the mobility of people and goods across Europe. The partners’ aim is to work together in the promotion of interoperable ITS solutions and services for safer, smarter and cleaner mobility throughout Europe. The latest members to join the group are:

AKKA Technologies (above), a Franco-German consulting and engineering group and European leader in the mobility segment, offering turnkey engineering solutions to the world’s leading companies in the automotive industry. Covering the full range of vehicle product development, the company works on engine, powertrain solutions with exhaust gas after treatment, and electrics and electronics for vehicle IT. The group has been involved in the European Autopilot proposal and is interested in working with the Partnership on connected and automated driving, interoperability and ITS for urban mobility.

Satellite Applications Catapult, a UK-based organization that actively promotes ITS within the satellite industry and community, while also promoting the use of satellite technology along with terrestrial technology within the ITS community, via demonstrations, white papers, conference participation and workshops. The Catapult was established in May 2013 by Innovate UK as one of a network of centers to accelerate the take-up of emerging technologies and drive economic growth. The Catapult has participated in the ITS World Congress in Bordeaux 2015, the ITS European Congress in Glasgow earlier this year, and will be involved in the ITS World Congress in Melbourne in October 2016. The Catapult would like to actively participate in ERTIC Partnership activities, and feels it would bring an extra dimension, as satellite communication is not well represented in C-ITS activities.

Inmarsat, a UK-based satellite network operator providing global telecommunications in voice data and M2M, delivering hybrid communications for ITS, including 5G. With a fleet of 12 satellites, the company advocates the use of resilient and seamless communications using a mix of terrestrial and satellite connectivity that can support service continuity within vehicles and infrastructure, irrespective of location. Recent participants in the Glasgow ITS Congress speaking under the topic ‘New transport services from satellite technologies’, Inmarsat would like to join the Mobile Network Operators Sector within the Partnership.

Luxembourg Institute of Science & Technology (LIST), a research and technology organization active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. With the creation of LIST (below), the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure has shown a clear signal that ITS is part of the future transport strategy in Luxembourg. LIST has a specific focus on mobility, including the handling of big data from both public transport and infrastructure, different integrated tools used in ITS, the development of smart ticketing and parking, and electrical vehicles usage and integration in to the smart grid. LIST is keen to work with the Partnership on ITS for urban mobility and eMobility programs.
