Cubic showcases advanced traffic management and road safety technologies at Traffex

Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) has showcased and demonstrated its latest integrated system innovations for transportation and road management at Traffex 2017 in Birmingham, UK, this week.

Traffex, which took place this week from April 4–6, has highlighted the latest technological advancements that will shape the future of the UK’s road network. During the three-day event, Cubic featured its next-generation traffic management platform, which is currently operating in the National Multimodal Connected Test Bed at the University of Melbourne in Australia. This world-first connected transport living lab paves the way for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs). Cubic also demonstrated its driver enforcement platforms for the processing of safety-related incidents and warnings, as well as for interface with roadside detection systems. In addition, Cubic representatives discussed Mobility as a Service (MaaS) and the convenience of a single account.

Cubic is a leading provider of intelligent traffic and transportation management systems for major cities and regions across four continents. With more than 20 years of experience, the Cubic Transport Management customers include Highways England (HE), Transport Scotland (TS), and Transport for London (TfL) in the UK, and Transport for New South Wales in Australia. Cubic’s Transport Management division specializes in the development and supply of complex traffic management systems for the monitoring and control of urban and intra-urban road networks, encompassing integrated traffic and incident management, decision support, bus tracking, and passenger information, through integrated user interfaces.

The business also provides safety camera and associated back office systems, as well as a complete capability for the installation and maintenance of intelligent transport systems (ITS) and equipment, such as its maintenance program for over a third of London’s traffic lights.

CTS launched its new Surface Transport Management platform at the ITS World Congress in Melbourne last October. Developed in collaboration with Microsoft, using the Azure cloud platform, the Surface Transport Management system sits at the core of the ‘smart city’, where its multi-modal integration capabilities allow transport management centers to control and direct travel networks throughout the city, and deliver safer, more secure and more reliable journeys for travelers. The platform is the first of its kind, providing a holistic view across all transportation modes, and it has been designed to be ready for the widespread deployment of fully autonomous vehicles for both passenger and freight movement.

“We’re excited to be part of this important event for the European intelligent transport systems (ITS) industry. We have a long heritage in the UK market and we are aiming to expand our footprint,” said Peter Williamson, head of ITS delivery for Europe at Cubic Transportation Systems.

“Our solutions and services draw on the strongest of our technologies from across all our transportation-related sectors, and respond to the real challenges now facing the business of mobility and safety.”
