Iteris launches SaaS-based system to analyze multimodal intersection data

One of the leaders in applied big data transportation informatics, Iteris Inc., has released a cloud-based intersection data analytics service that could transform the way agencies view multimodal data from intersection infrastructure.

The new Iteris VantageLive! System (above) is a cloud-based transportation analytics service that allows users to view intersection activity by automatically collecting and analyzing vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian data on a continuous basis, with data availability 24/7/365 from their existing Iteris detection infrastructure. The easy-to-use software-as-a-service (SaaS) system is a completely new type of product offering from Iteris that will significantly improve how agencies optimize and plan their transportation networks. By providing multimodal data percentages and peak hour summary reports, traffic engineers will be able to better optimize signal timing to ensure maximum efficiency, and help improve intersection safety conditions for pedestrians and bicyclists.

By accessing connected intersection systems within an agency’s network, VantageLive! collects data provided from Iteris Vantage platforms, such as its video detection and radar sensor systems, and securely sends it to the company’s advanced analytics engine in the cloud for processing. Multiple agency personnel, including traffic engineers and planning departments, can then simultaneously access data and insights via a web browser. Users of VantageLive! could dramatically reduce their data collection costs, since the system uses their current infrastructure. In addition, having this information available 24/7 will allow traffic engineers to quickly make important decisions such as optimizing and prioritizing improvements to city roads, sidewalks, bike paths, and other transportation modes.

The system also provides a whole suite of comprehensive analytics, including Universal Traffic Data Format (UTDF), peak hour factor calculations, and daily/weekly/monthly count reports. Agencies will benefit from these reports in a variety of engineering tasks that are currently being done with more manual methods. VantageLive! is the newest addition to Iteris’s Vantage product line of roadway sensors that provide reliable detection for intersections and arterials worldwide. The company’s video detection sensors feature patented SmartCycle technology to detect cyclist activity, and PedTrax, which provides detection, counting and speed tracking of pedestrians within crosswalks.

“VantageLive! will give agencies a straightforward ability to view critical intersection information every minute of every day,” noted Todd Kreter, general manager of roadway sensors at Iteris. “By visualizing multimodal vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian data collected by our detection platforms at intersections, agencies will be better equipped to prioritize critical intersection safety and efficiency improvements to enhance their communities.”
