SRL’s new adaptive detection system increases mobile traffic light efficiency by 50%

UK-based ITS equipment manufacturer, SRL, has launched new traffic light detection technology and CCTV products, that minimise traffic congestion by improving efficiency of signals by up to 50% and provide clearer, more complete video images of workzones, in all conditions.

SRL has further developed the technology within its traffic light portfolio to include the new adaptive detection system (ADS) detector to support local authorities and utility companies as they strive to reduce the level of congestion around their roadworks and cities.

SRL’s ADS technology may be used in conjunction with its new Eurolight Master temporary and portable traffic lights and offers four-way control with advanced radar detection.

The ADS detector monitors traffic flow and uses an algorithm to adjust the length of each cycle in response to volumes recorded throughout the day, including the accommodation of HGV start lag.

The company’s extensive trials of the solution indicate that the ADS can give an additional 50% efficiency by upgrading standard traffic light detectors, quickly clearing each queue on every cycle following simple and swift deployment, reducing congestion.

SRL has also enhanced its CCTV offer, with the introduction of the industry’s first portable CCTV to provide not only a 360-degree panoramic view, but also a perspective of the 180-degrees beneath the camera, allowing users to achieve a superior level of surveillance, responsiveness and security.

The robust 360 Monitoring Portable CCTV features the latest embedded 2TB industrial grade solid state drive (SSD) and an Axis camera capable of generating clear images in total darkness.  SRL is an Axis approved partner.

Multiple units can be configured to create a single, scalable solution that can be conveniently viewed remotely via smartphone or PC on one system.

The 3,350mm(h) x 550mm(w) x 760mm(l) product is already generating significant interest in the traffic management and events sectors, particularly among organisations wishing to promote the safety of lone workers.

“Both the ADS detector and 360 Monitoring Portable CCTV have been created in response to customer demand,” says SRL’s chief executive officer, Richard Tredwin. “As a result, we’re pleased to say that both are already generating strong interest from organisations striving to minimise congestion and improve site security.”

SRL’s ADS detector and 360 Monitoring Portable CCTV are available for hire as well as purchase, and join an extensive product portfolio that also comprises variable message signs (VMS) and the Urban64 traffic signal solution used to coordinate multi-directional flows of traffic and pedestrians.

The launch of the new products comes at the end of a landmark year for the Cheshire, UK-based firm, which this summer also expanded into the high speed and compact VMS markets.
