At the ITS World Congress in Dubai last month Miovision joined global mobility leaders to discuss the future of transportation and showcased two of its new solutions – advanced data collection with Scout Plus and intersection vehicle priority system Opticom. TTi spoke to Miovision experts in a video interview in Dubai. Here we take a closer look at the solutions
According to Kurtis McBride, CEO of Miovision, a provider of technologies for the development of smart cities, the company’s presence at the 30th ITS World Congress (ITSWC) in Dubai in September as an attendee, exhibitor, and speaker reflected “its commitment to advancing efficiency, safety, and mobility within global communities.”
In 2023, Miovision proudly gained additional customers for its traffic solutions in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. So, this ITS World Congress is very special for the company. The firm aims to continue working with forward-looking cities in MENA and around the world on achievable goals like improving road safety and reducing congestion through better data analysis.
Software updates delivered ‘over-the-air’ allow for continuous improvement of the system’s performance. This ensures the tolling infrastructure remains at the forefront of technological advancements
According to Statista projections, MENA’s population will exceed 700 million people by 2050. Cities across the region therefore need cost-effective solutions to help them optimize traffic flow, reduce congestion, lower vehicle-related pollution and enhance road safety. This year’s ITSWC in Dubai gives a global audience to showcase Miovision’s suite of modern tools that can help cities address pressing issues related to heightened road traffic.
With an estimated 540 cars on the road for every 1,000 people, according to its Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai provides a vivid example of a thriving city already using Miovision’s solutions to analyse traffic data and increase mobility.
Miovision highlighted to particularly innovative solutions at the ITSWC in Dubai. The first was Miovision Scout Plus, a portable video-based data collection solution that collects all data types, operates with verifiable accuracy, and has the safest and fastest deployment for comprehensive data collection studies – all in a single device. Some studies that are available are intersection counts (TMC), road volume data counts (ATR), pathway counts, roundabout counts, junction counts, speed data, and safety studies.
The other solution the company highlighted was Miovision Opticom, a flexible priority control platform that enhances mobility within cities by effectively prioritising vehicles at intersections. This flexible, cloud-based vehicle communication platform sends and receives data through cellular networks, allowing priority vehicles to efficiently move through urban traffic.
Opticom Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) empowers emergency teams with green lights at intersections to save time and ultimately, lives. Opticom Transit Signal Priority (TSP) gives transit vehicles the ability to request priority based on the time of day, direction of travel etc. With a 70% reduction in intersection crash rates and 25% improvement in response times, Miovision is constantly keeping safety at the top of our minds.
Using analytics and traffic studies with verifiable data, Miovision helps its customers to make decisions on real-world traffic problems. It is looking forward to engaging with international leaders, sharing its expertise, and exploring new ways to enhance global transportation systems.
