The US Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has introduced its most innovative product yet a smartphone app version of its 2016 Pocket Guide to Transportation.
To help mark USDOT’s 50th anniversary, the BTS has launched the new product, which is a marriage of the Bureau’s most popular print publication, the annual Pocket Guide, with a smartphone application for Apple and Android operating systems. The many regular users of the Pocket Guide will now be able to take all the informative graphics and tables from the guide with them, without having to carry around a printed hard copy.
The Pocket Guide is a popular, quick reference guide to significant transportation statistics. All of the features that have made the Pocket Guide so sought after over the years will be available from the new app, including all seven sections of the regular version: Infrastructure, Moving People, Moving Goods, Performance, Economy, Safety and Environment, plus a new Major Trends section. If an industry professional needs transportation statistics at a moment’s notice, such as a list of the most congested urban areas or the busiest Amtrak stations, the BTS app has it available.
The Pocket Guide app is just one of the innovations that BTS will be rolling out over the coming months and years. There will be a new focus on the use of technology to deliver the most recent transportation statistics in new and different ways. The next BTS product will be a new dashboard that will show the most recent transportation indicators that the Bureau has collected, along with trends and comparisons to previous time periods. The BTS is promising further, even more innovative products, in the near future.
