Finland promoting MaaS as the future of mobility at ITS European Congress

Seven top Finnish companies providing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Mobility as a Service (MaaS) services, together with key public organizations from the country, will form a joint stand at next week’s ITS European Congress, which is taking place in Glasgow from June 6-9.

Ranging from payment solutions and car sharing to robotic parking, predictive road maintenance and more, the companies’ innovations have contributed extensively to Finland’s highly-active smart mobility ecosystem. The Finnish government is removing regulatory boundaries and works closely together with companies to support new mobility innovations and services.

The country is particularly aware that the way the world operates, finances and regulates transport systems, are changing fast. To promote the shift toward digitized and serviced mobility ecosystem, Finland and Finnish companies are currently working on large-scale projects that aim at enabling high-quality, cost-effective mobility services, which respond to changing consumer needs. They will also enhance implementation of technology and digital solutions, as well as commercializing the MaaS concept, which the country is at the forefront of developing and implementing.

As well as Roadscanners, Shareit, Solita and the VTT Technical Research Center, three other Finnish companies will be at the stand:

Infotripla will present customer-driven product use case studies and a brand new pilot for the NordicWay project with HERE and the Finnish Transport Agency. For the project, Infotripla is providing a scalable access for Traffic Management Centers to ITS directive-based safety related traffic information (SRTI) events, and a flexible cloud system for standardized data analysis and delivery; PayiQ is launching a third-generation mobile payment solution for Smart Cities and MaaS operators. The company’s cloud-based PayiQ MaaS Payment Solution enables secure and safe mobile payment and ticketing for public and private transport, which allows MaaS operators to integrate secure payment and ticketing to customized services, with a single user interface; Leanpark will present its All Vehicle Robotic Parking system, which is capable of handling the widest range of vehicles in the robotic parking industry. As a new feature for 2016, the charging of electric vehicles in a robotic parking facility will be Leanpark’s key promotion.

“The new innovative and disrupting services pop up on a daily basis, and the entire regulatory environment is under an enormous pressure. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched the Transport Code legislation project, which will promote new service models to better meet the needs of users,” said Marko Forsblom, CEO of ITS Finland. “The changes are likely to be well received by companies as well, since they will offer better conditions for developing new services, and thus provide new business opportunities and make it easier to enter the market. Finland aims to stay on the front-line in the digitalization of mobility services.”
