A new next-generation, cloud-based transportation and traffic management system that aims to solve the increased demand on city transportation systems and road networks as urban populations rise, is being launched at this week’s (June 6-9) ITS European Congress in Glasgow, Scotland.
Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) is demonstrating NextTraffic, a new multi-modal transportation platform that uses Microsoft’s Azure Cloud, which combines Cubic’s expertise in transportation payment and information technologies, with Microsoft’s leadership in enterprise systems.
NextTraffic is a flexible and scalable cloud-enabled platform that allows the collection, processing, monitoring, controlling and management of all traffic elements on multiple computer networks in one source, which provides for control of surface transportation and better use of roads and networks. NextTraffic supports system-wide data collection, processing and sharing of information to travelers and cities with a modern and flexible system that can work with the customer’s existing infrastructure and through the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
By replacing out-of-date components with current strategic level technology the CTS-Microsoft system enables the management of all customers’ assets through a single common operating picture. The NextTraffic platform offers:
More efficient operations, by eliminating the overhead of managing multiple unconnected systems;
Demand management that provides a higher quality of information to travelers, including personal journey information, to proactively manage demand, and to allow consumers to make better informed travel decisions;
Improved use of resources, including road networks, infrastructure, and workforce;
Increased availability of customer assets through faster and better responses, guided by a strategic view of the customer’s road network;
Better understanding of the network, guiding more informed strategic decisions to assist and support an ever-changing world.
