Sensys Networks launches new Smart City software platform at ITS America

The topic of smart cities is taking center stage at ITS America 2016, which is taking place this week (June 12-16) in San Jose, California. One of the leading developers of traffic detection and management equipment is using the event to launch a new software platform that captures accurate data and interprets it without creating extra work for municipalities, making the concept of a smart city possible.

Sensys Networks, one of the world’s leading providers of integrated wireless traffic data systems for Smart Cities, has announced a new platform of software services, SensTraffic, which automatically collects high resolution traffic data and synthesizes it into actionable insights for traffic engineers, planners and consultants. The company says the new platform improves upon the inefficient methods of traffic data collection currently in general use, where all too often, traffic data is ‘siloed’, rarely updated, or never converted to create actionable solutions for a city.

With SensTraffic, highly accurate traffic data is continually processed into a wide variety of detailed reports, including: congestion mapping, travel times, origin/destination, high-resolution performance measures, on-demand signal retiming data, bicycle and vehicle counts, safety metrics, complete system diagnostics, and more. User-defined alerts enable monitoring capabilities for rapid response to changing conditions. All of the data is archived for trend analysis, and real-time poll or push data feeds interface with third party applications, so users have access to data wherever they need it.

The data platform is already in use by over a dozen of Sensys Networks’ customers across the USA, including the Golden Gate Bridge Highway & Transportation District in San Francisco, where they are collecting accurate real-time traffic counts on a per-lane basis to trigger congestion alarms and provide monthly reports for planning. With the full suite of SensTraffic’s data services deployed, traffic visionaries can make unprecedented data-driven decisions to manage roadways, increase safety, and optimize traffic signals. Measurable benefits include up to a 40% reduction in traffic delays, 25% less travel time, and 31% fewer accidents.
