Eberle and The Traffic Group sign Memorandum of Understanding for traffic data collections services

One of the USA’s largest providers of traffic counts has formed a partnership with a leading supplier of data gathering equipment to provide state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and other agencies with customized traffic information services.

Announced at the ITS America event in San Jose, California, last week, Eberle Design Inc (EDI), a manufacturer of traffic control and intersection monitoring equipment, has signed an MOU with The Traffic Group (TTG), one of the country’s leading traffic engineering and transportation planning companies, to create a strategic alliance to provide a suite of EDI privately-labeled custom products to TTG’s customers in the traffic data collection and planning market sector. With over 3,000 pieces of traffic data collection equipment, TTG has the largest inventory of aggregation technology in the USA and conducts more than 100,000 traffic counts for clients annually. Its services help determine road improvements, signal and sign location, lighting plans, land usage, public facility and capacity issues, and security measures.

“We are pleased to have an opportunity to work with TTG to pursue traffic data collection and traffic planning projects that we would not normally see in our normal intersection-based traffic control market. We will customize our iCITE (Intelligent Cabinet Interface to Traffic Equipment), traffic data collection and reporting products to meet the specific market requirements of TTG,” said Bill Russell, president and CEO of EDI. “The need for accurate, real-time traffic data from intersections and arterials has never been greater, as required by many provisions of the five-year US legislation, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST), to improve the nation’s surface transportation infrastructure, roads, bridges, transit systems and rail transportation network.”

Wes Guckert, president of TTG, commented, “We are very excited to have access to EDI’s leading-edge data collection devices, and we look forward to working cooperatively with EDI’s established network of local traffic control equipment dealers to provide the very best real-time traffic data collection services to our customers. We will utilize EDI products to aggregate real-time traffic data, using a variety of traffic sensor technologies, incorporating the data into a turn-key TTG traffic data collection solution that we may provide, or may be gathered by the DOT agencies.”

A sponsor of the ITS America show, EDI and its Reno A&E (RAE) subsidiary used the event to show its portfolio of products, including:

• EDI and RAE iCITE Data Aggregator DA-300, which provides real-time traffic and arterial data from remote intersections with cabinet monitoring and travel time;

• RAE Bicycle Detection & Vehicle Differentiation Systems that identify all vehicles, including the ability to differentiate bicycles from all other vehicles, as well as scooters and motorcycles;

• RAE MMU2-1600GE Signal Monitor that includes a built-in configuration wizard to quickly and accurately configure for standard 8-phase, dual-ring operation;

• EDI SmartMonitor Malfunction Management Unit (MMU2), which monitors up to 16 traffic signal channels for conflicting inputs, improper sequencing, incorrect timing, and invalid voltage levels;

• EDI ORACLE Advanced Vehicle Detectors that indicate vehicle presence with great accuracy and reliability.
