Sensys Gatso wins two MENA speed camera orders

The world’s largest supplier of traffic enforcement equipment has expanded its presence in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region with two new orders worth a total of US$2.8m (€2.5m).

The Sensys Gatso Group, which was formed last year when Sweden’s Sensys Traffic acquired the Dutch company Gatso Beheer, has received orders for traffic safety systems worth US$1.7m (€1.5m) from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The orders derive from the company’s current customer base in the UAE, and cover speed and red-light enforcement systems, with deliveries planned to be executed within the fourth quarter of this year.

Sensys Gatso has been supplying the UAE with traffic enforcement systems since 2001, contributing to the significant improvements that have been made to traffic safety in several of the emirates in the UAE. To improve its service and operations in the Gulf area, the company established its headquarters for the MENA region in Dubai.

With a population of more than 400 million people, the MENA region has been key to Sensys Gatso Group’s success; it contributed 15% of the group’s total revenues in 2015, and continues to develop as one of Sensys Gatso’s most important markets. The region is characterized by knowledgeable and demanding customers, running small to midsize procurement projects for traffic safety systems at regular intervals, the group says. This is in contrast with other regions where the group is active, such as Europe, which is characterized by larger long-term national projects.

Referring to the company’s RS242 Alutower multi-tracking radar unit, Saman Alae Naziri, general manager of the Sensys Gatso Group’s MENA region in Dubai, said, “We are proud to continue to contribute to traffic safety in the UAE. The orders include a tower based traffic system designed to blend into modern city environments in UAE, which demonstrates our ability to tailor solutions to the needs of our customers in the region.”

Sensys Gatso has just received a US$1.13m (€1m) order for traffic speed enforcement systems from a new and unspecified customer in the MENA region. Deliveries under this order will commence as soon as full payment has been received, and are planned to be finalized within the first quarter 2017.

In connection to this order, the group has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperate on the localization of production and transfer of knowledge for potential further orders for this customer. However, the customer has not made any commitments in relation to further orders under the MoU. The addressable market covered by the memorandum is a population of more than 60 million people, 15 million vehicles, a vast road network, and more than 10 cities with a population exceeding 500,000.

Torbjörn Sandberg, president and CEO of Sensys Gatso, said, “We are very excited to receive this first order, and are looking forward to develop our cooperation with the customer, in order to exploit the future potential in this area.”
