Siemens to launch next generation ALPR camera at Traffex 2017

Siemens ITS will launch its Sicore II next generation automatic licenseplate recognition (ALPR) camera platform at Traffex 2017, which takes place on April 4-7 at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.

Sicore II is based on more than 30 years of Siemens’s experience in vision detection and analytics and its success in the ANPR market with the original Sicore camera unit. Robust, reliable and built to last, Sicore II has been specifically designed for average speed control and enforcement deployments, low emission or clean air zones, and vehicle access control. The company says it represents a significant step change in performance from traditional ANPR cameras. Featuring modern and distinctive styling, Sicore II is a compact and streamlined extrusion design with integrated antennas for communications, including: a H.264 streaming interface for true multi-use ANPR without interruption; 3G/4G communications; and dedicated wi-fi connectivity for secure, simple commissioning.

The Sicore II also features an in-built virtual private network (VPN) for safe remote connection without the need for external communication devices, delivering the highest levels of secure evidence data. Using the latest camera sensors, with a much greater depth of field and sensitivity, enables the reading of license plates easily at a variety of distances, over a full range of speeds, and under different environmental and lighting conditions.

The Sicore II uses large dynamic-range image sensors at up to 40 frames per second that produce very impressive results of excellent image quality for both infrared (IR) and color-visible overview. The Sicore II is also capable of three lane coverage over 31ft (9.5m) with a single camera, processing up to 2,500 fast-moving vehicles per lane per hour and, uniquely, it provides reliable operation at temperatures between -30° C and +60°C.

“Sicore II is designed with future-proof features for the evolving ANPR market, and represents the future of enforcement, supporting many countries across the world. The new Sicore II platform is modular and scalable, delivering the highest-quality, evidentially-secure images in all conditions, both day and night, and features a powerful quad core processor and integrated state-of-the-art ANPR vision engine,” explained James Riley, Siemens’ global product marketing manager for enforcement solutions.

“It is such a critical time in the ANPR industry, where technologies are evolving and communication between devices is becoming more essential in providing smart city solutions and enforcement as a service. Sicore II has been designed and built in Poole, UK, with the expert knowledge and capability of our Global Center of Competence for enforcement, and more than 10 years of involvement in Congestion Charging for London.”

At Traffex, Siemens will also be unveiling a number of other new developments, including the Plus+ range of traffic controller and signals, which use ‘distributed intelligence’ to increase intersection uptime and reduce on-street installation and maintenance time. The company’s third-generation Plus+ portfolio includes: the ST950 controller unit; Helios signal heads; nearside and wait indicators; and smartloops. Siemens will also be demonstrating the latest hosted Traffic Signals application module for its Stratos cloud-based strategic traffic management system.
