McCain to distribute Polara’s pedestrian safety systems in Southern California

One of the USA’s leaders in the supply of advanced transportation management and control systems, McCain Inc, has announced that it has signed an exclusive agreement to distribute products from Polara Enterprises in Southern California.

Based in Commerce, Texas, Polara is a leading North American supplier of accessible pedestrian signals (APS) and ADA-compliant (Americans with Disabilities Act) pedestrian technology and push buttons. Under the terms of the agreement, which took effect on April 3, 2017, McCain will represent Polara’s entire line of APS systems, including the newly released Polara iNavigator series, which uses wireless communication via an Apple or desktop application for easy programming and communication.

McCain, which is now part of the Austrian Swarco Group, has a large product portfolio that includes advanced traffic control equipment and integrated intersection management systems, with an existing range of ADA- and MUTCD- compliant (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) pedestrian signals equipment.

Polara’s APS use audible tones, speech messages, and vibrations to communicate to pedestrians how and when to safely cross the street. The company offers a 2-wire central communication push button system approved by several Southern California agencies, as well as a localized, Caltrans-approved pedestrian system powered by the pedestrian signal. The benefits of these APS systems include:

• Operation over a single pair of wires;

• Push button stations are wired in parallel, individually assignable to any phase;

• 16+ buttons can operate with a single control unit;

• Customizable messages in many languages.

Polara’s 2- and 4-wire Push Button Stations (EN2 PBS and EN4 PBS) are the pedestrian interfaces to the traffic cabinet-mounted EZ Communicator Navigator (EZCOMM). The EN2 system is designed for use on intersections with existing button wires, and the EN4 system is designed for intersections where button wires do not exist, but can also be installed on intersections with button wires.

Polara’s iNavigator (iN) is the next generation of APS that incorporates the latest technology in power line communication and wireless communication. It has the same features as the EN product line, with added features including:

• More distinctive button vibration;

• Better digital sound technology and 360° sound output;

• New button switch technology that allows push force adjustment;

• Wireless programming via Bluetooth or wi-fi that makes installation, programming and upgrading easy, with no need to remove covers or cables to change messages or firmware.

“We are excited to partner with such an innovative leader in pedestrian safety,” said Nathan Welch, director of sales for McCain. “We are seeing more and more customers adopt Polara technology because of its simplicity, effectiveness, and ease of installation. Adding Polara to our robust distribution line in Southern California will help us to continue to provide our customers with the latest and most advanced products on the market.”

Matt Baker, national sales manager at Polara, commented, “We are excited to partner with McCain as our exclusive distributor for Southern California. McCain’s reputation, position in this market, and overall philosophy of serving customers, while providing them with industry leading products, made this partnership a great match for Polara.”
