TomTom opens new Traffic Center in India

Global navigation and traffic information company TomTom has inaugurated its latest Traffic Center at its Center of Excellence in Pune, India, with the new location joining similar centers in Germany and the Netherlands.

The Traffic Center in Pune is a part of TomTom’s global network of Traffic Centers, showcasing the company’s intelligent technology for traffic and travel management. The Traffic Center in Pune will demonstrate how TomTom turns data into actionable insights that can help traffic city planners and inhabitants make smarter decisions, reducing road congestion and enhancing mobility in cities. The company opened its first Traffic Center in its home city of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in September last year, and followed that up with a similar facility in Berlin, Germany, in October.

The new Traffic Center will help in delivering a real-time, comprehensive understanding of traffic speeds on the entire road network, including rich live and historic insights into traffic flows and trends. It will showcase traffic management expertise to governments, B2B and automotive licensing partners, and other stakeholders interested in how they can start planning for a smarter future. The Traffic Centers also support TomTom City, an online portal that provides up-to-date traffic and travel planning information for cities, citizens and professionals in over 100 cities worldwide.

Pune is also home to TomTom’s first global state-of-the-art Innovation Hub, providing a strategic platform that enables the company’s employees to upgrade their skills, innovate, and think like entrepreneurs. With this facility, TomTom aims to develop a deeper culture of innovation, with a free-flow of information and ideas across the globe, allowing experimentation and cross-boundary cooperation.

“Pune joins our Amsterdam and Berlin sites in showcasing our technology and engineering excellence in the area of navigation, maps and traffic, which can help pave the way to smarter mobility,” explained Alain De Taeye, member of TomTom’s management board. “As our largest site outside of Amsterdam, Pune contributes significantly to our map and traffic products, enabling cities to realize their smart cities vision.”

Dhanashree Rajopadhye, director of software engineering at TomTom India, added, “Every day we work with innovative mapmaking technologies and engineering innovations, such as our HD Map with RoadDNA, our next-generation location technology for autonomous driving, while crunching Big Data through artificial intelligence to generate predictive traffic intelligence. The Traffic Center showcases our maps and traffic, which are derived by our proprietary data fusion engine from trillions of GPS measurements, every minute of the day.”
