Star Systems releases new Avior narrow beam RFID toll tag reader

Hong Kong-based RFID (radio frequency identification) hardware, tag, and professional services provider Star Systems International has announced the availability of its new high-performance Avior narrow beam tolling antenna.

Star Systems has developed, designed and built Avior to be an ideal over-the-road tolling antenna for all electronic toll collection (ETC) systems using passive tags. With its uniquely engineered design, Avior allows system designers to create an optimal read zone in either a multi-lane free flow/open road tolling (MLFF/ORT) or in a plaza-based tolling lane. Toll operators using passive tags need dependable and focused antennas to maximize read rates and the accuracy of automatic transactions, so Avior was created specifically with the toll road companies and concessionaires in mind.

With a powerful and focused narrow beam, Avior maximizes read rates and isolates tag identification to the desired read zone, which helps to avoid cross-lane and stray transponder reads, and mitigates adjacent lane interference. Star Systems says Avior’s compact footprint and reduced weight is unique in the market when compared to other similarly featured products, with its reduced size allowing for a more efficient and safer installation over roads.

From a cost standpoint, its compact size reduces shipping and storage costs, while making installation easier. Built from heavy-duty aluminum with a weather resistant housing, Avior is suitable for the harshest of roadside environments. Avior has a wideband frequency design allowing it to operate in the 865-928MHz range, which makes it applicable for use around the globe.

Founded in 2013, Star Systems is a market leader in providing passive ISO 18000-63 (6C) UHF RFID transponders, readers, systems and consulting services for vehicle identification systems. The company was formed by a group of former employees of Sirit and Federal Signal Technologies with more than 40 years of aggregate experience in the Automatic Identification, Intelligent Transportation and RFID industries. The company has international distribution rights for products from Star-RFID, a Thailand based RFID tag manufacturer.

Star Systems successfully co-developed and deployed the eTag tolling system currently being used island-wide in Taiwan, and also has experience in Thailand, Turkey, India, Vietnam, and the USA with vehicle identification systems.
