Weather Telematics to launch predictive road condition warning platform

Canadian smart mobility company Weather Telematics Inc. (WTX) is introducing Predictiv SA (Safety Alerts), a new platform that will provide motorists with advance warnings about dangerous driving conditions on the road ahead.

WTX is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toronto-based technology investment company Internet of Things Inc. (IoT Inc.), and its new Predictiv SA road safety warning platform will provide drivers with a single alert when road conditions ahead of the vehicle are predicted to be dangerous, requiring immediate driver intervention. This predictive safety alert helps drivers avoid, manage or mitigate dangerous road conditions before they occur. Predictiv SA is a new extension of WTX’s Predictiv RC (Road Conditions) global platform that delivers ‘micro-scale’ mapping resolution, ranging from 1,640ft to below 984ft (500-200m), providing unsurpassed accuracy in assessing and managing risks associated with driving in poor weather conditions.

The advanced capabilities of the Predictiv RC and SA platforms will enable WTX to improve the safety of current connected and electric vehicles while providing the essential data needed to operate autonomous vehicles in all weather conditions. The Predictiv SA API (Application Programming Interface) combines road weather conditions, such as dry, wet, snowy or icy, and road weather hazards, including hydroplaning, high wind and limited visibility, into one consolidated road safety ‘score’. The driver and/or vehicle will only receive the Predictiv SA Safety Alert when the combined dangers exceed minimum risk thresholds, minimizing driver distraction.

Weather Telematics uses a proprietary vehicle-mounted mobile IoT sensor network and AI and machine learning to generate historical, real-time and predictive road weather conditions for road hazard risk alerts and dynamic routing applications. The company’s industry-leading Predictiv RC and Predictiv SA platforms mitigate weather risk, reduce traffic congestion, and make connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) navigation safer in all types of road conditions. For connected, autonomous or electric vehicle OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, WTX’s Predictiv RC and new Predictiv SA platforms help manage adverse road conditions for safer driving, while predicting road weather conditions ahead of the vehicle to mitigate risk and ensure safer route selection.

Founded in 2010, WTX is an IoT data science company offering road safety data products for industrial, government and consumer markets. The company has designed and deployed the largest meteorologically approved mobile weather observation platform in North America. Since launch, this network has delivered millions of observations daily to the USA’s National Weather Service (NWS), allowing for delivery of dynamic road weather conditions across the country.

“Many of today’s vehicles are capable of detecting dangerous road weather conditions near the vehicle, but in some cases it’s too late for the driver to take action,” said Bob Moran, CEO of Weather Telematics. “Predictiv SA has been specifically designed to give drivers and vehicles predictive awareness of hazards before they pose life-threatening risks. Combining our Predictiv RC and Predictiv SA products provides unsurpassed levels of safety for drivers and positions us as an industry leader in AI-based mobility technologies.”
