Transition Networks launching new eight-port PoE++ switch for ITS and IoT applications

One of the leading providers of edge computing connectivity solutions, Transition Networks, will launch a new ruggedized eight-port, fully-managed Power-over-Ethernet ++ (PoE++) switch at the International Security Conference and Exposition (ISC East) on November 14-15, in New York City.

The new Transition Networks SISPM1040-582-LRT PoE++ switch has been specially designed for connecting and powering Internet of Things (IoT) and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices in harsh or outdoor environments. The switch is one of the first to support the new IEEE 802.3bt standard for PoE++, which was ratified in late September. The unit is the latest addition to Transition Networks’ growing portfolio of PoE, PoE+, and PoE++ products designed for IoT applications. It is also NEMA TS-2 certified for use in traffic control applications. The hardened switch is ideal for use with IP (Internet Protocol) security or traffic monitoring cameras, LED lighting, ITS applications, tolling deployments, point of sale (POS) systems, or for digital signage.

The eight-port Hardened PoE++ Switch provides eight 10/100/1000 PoE++ ports with two 100/1000 dual-speed small form-factor pluggable (SFP) slots for fiber-optic backbone connections. It can supply up to 90W per port on four ports or 60W per port on all eight ports simultaneously and, with its wide temperature range of -40° to +75°C (-40° to 167°F), is certified to operate reliably in outdoor enclosures or harsh environments.

Several innovative features of the switch help to improve operational efficiency. The auto power reset (APR) feature enables the switch to automatically monitor and reset an attached powered device when there is no response to the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) being sent to the device, avoiding the need to dispatch a technician for simple power resets. The PoE scheduling capability means that the switch can enable or disable specific ports according to a user-designated schedule, such as during business or non-business hours, to help organizations save on energy and costs. The switch also includes embedded Device Management System (DMS) software that provides the advanced tools necessary for total management of all IP addressable devices. The unique DMS provides systems integrators with valuable benefits such as lower overall cost, reduced downtime, and easier management of the entire PoE network.

In addition to presenting the new switch at ISC East, Transition Networks will be showcasing the recently launched Self-Enclosed PoE++ Switch, as well as other PoE, PoE+, and PoE++ products from its wide assortment of solutions for the security, smart city, ITS, and IoT industries.

“Applications for advanced IP devices, such as pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) security or traffic cameras, require higher power levels and more efficient PoE delivery systems,” said GlenNiece Kutsch, product manager at Transition Networks. “Our new eight-port Hardened PoE++ Switch addresses these challenges by providing up to 90W of power per port and incorporating features such as auto power reset (APR), PoE scheduling, and embedded Device Management System (DMS) software that directly contributes to operational efficiency, as well as energy and cost savings.”
