AGD Group rebrands as The Traffic Group and acquires ALPR specialist MAV

UK-based transportation technology company AGD Group has rebranded as The Traffic Group (TTG) and expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of MAV Systems (MAV).

AGD’s name change to TTG reflects the company’s growth in the traffic market, with a portfolio of businesses focused on products designed to help create safer, greener and more efficient transport environments.

The group has two core offerings: advanced low-power radar, electro-optical sensors, and ALPR (automatic license plate recognition) cameras for ITS applications; and a comprehensive range of portable traffic signals suitable for many types of deployment. TTG’s current portfolio of companies comprises: AGD Systems, MAV Systems, Pike Signals, Hollco, AGD Systems (Australia), and Arkon Services.

MAV is a leading global supplier of ALPR cameras that has achieved continued success from its ability to meet specific partner requirements across multiple sectors. The acquisition by TTG will bring a more extensive range of traffic systems under one banner. MAV is already working with one TTG company, AGD Systems, in the supply of radar products to work alongside MAV’s IQ range of intelligent ALPR cameras, and the two companies are currently collaborating on a number of other synergistic solutions. MAV has achieved excellent growth within the ITS, parking, policing and enforcement markets in the UK and internationally, and the TTG network of international channels in more than 60 countries will provide additional routes to market.

The MAV roadmap for 2018 and beyond remains concentrated on the launch of new ALPR-based products that offer new features to its integration partners. As a product designer and manufacturer, MAV works with partners that can system-engineer and deploy the whole end-user solution.

Commonly this will use the company’s IQ intelligent cameras as a core building block and edge-based intelligent sensor hub. This portfolio is now augmented by speed and distance measurement technologies from the TTG group that open new ITS and enforcement opportunities worldwide.

“In joining forces with TTG we are already seeing opportunities to develop enhanced products for all our customers, beyond those we originally foresaw,” noted Steve Walker, co-founder and managing director of MAV. “The depth of technical and market experience we now jointly possess is truly world-class and inspirational.”

Mike Hutchinson, chairman of TTG, added, “This acquisition comes at a very exciting time for us, with the formation of TTG to steer a group of strong companies, each a leader in its field, into a new phase of growth and expansion, with a product range that increasingly addresses the wider needs of the traffic market.”
