Record numbers attend Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018

The 2018 edition of Intertraffic Amsterdam reconfirmed its position as Europe’s leading trade event for infrastructure, traffic management, smart mobility, safety, and parking, with a wide diversity of exhibitors, sessions from world-leading experts, ground-breaking innovations, and a record numbers of attendees.

The organizers of the event, RAI Amsterdam, have reported that a record total of 32,317 visitors from 138 countries worldwide attended the four-day event this year, which was held on April 20-23, with nearly 900 companies from 49 countries exhibiting.

For Intertraffic’s content program, nearly 8,000 check-ins were made for the 79 sessions. The international share of attendees was 75%, with non-European origin showing significant growth. Overall the attendance figure has gone up by 7.5% from the 2016 edition. The organizers state that exhibitor re-bookings for 2020 clearly underline the significance of ROI, as already 70% of space was claimed on the spot for the next Amsterdam show in 2020, which promises to be special, as it will be the 25th anniversary edition.

One of the highlights of this year’s Intertraffic show was the new ITSUP startup event, which saw 46 global startups demonstrate their solutions, motivations and drive. The ITSUP Arena Challenges were also deemed a resounding success, as over three days and across three contemporary challenges, 15 solutions were proposed and six collaborations emerged.

One of the challengers, HR Groep agreed on collaborations to improve urban experiences and infrastructure with French startup Qucit and USA-based Savari from California. Other challengers, SWOV and Sensys Gatso, created a coalition with Dutch startup SD Insights and the Canadian company Keeping Roads Safe to combine technology and experience in order to create new ways of identifying and enforcing unsafe driving behaviors.

RAI Amsterdam also agreed on an exciting collaboration with Dutch startups 2DOK and Intellifi, with the former using its carbon-neutral network of transportation providers to take advantage of Amsterdam’s waterways to alleviate the burdens created by the show’s logistical demands, and the latter using IoT (Internet of Things) technology to make this a smart and well monitored process.

RAI says the ITSUP startup event will be integrated in more Intertraffic events across the globe, which this year includes: Intertraffic China from May 28-30, Intertraffic Indonesia from October 31-November 2; and Intertraffic Mexico on November 13-15.

“We worked very closely with the sector to bring both our show floor and our content program to the next level. We got the automotive and data industries actively involved, plus offered a playing field to innovative newcomers with our dedicated ITSUP startup event,” noted Joyce de Winter, exhibition manager for Intertraffic.

“We also added newness with the introduction of our Community Hub, an extra hall for smart mobility, and circular show routing. Our close cooperation with authoritative experts resulted in a well-received mix of themes and topics, and the content program clearly met the demand for knowledge exchange and learning opportunities. The feedback from both visitors and exhibitors was a solid confirmation that we are serving the industry what it needs, and are offering an augmented experience to all stakeholders involved.”
