Trafficware brings business intelligence to ITS with new release of its ATMS platform

Texas-based transportation equipment manufacturer Trafficware has become the first company to bring business intelligence to the ITS space with the release of version 2.8 of its ATMS.Now central traffic management system.

The latest release of Trafficware’s industry-leading central management system now ships with an additional business intelligence layer to give departments of transportation (DOTs) an insight into what is happening within their agencies.

With version 2.8, ATMS users have a configurable alarm dashboard with hundreds of variations to show them instantly what issues are occurring in their system, allowing them to take quick action.

Also included in the ATMS version 2.8 upgrade is cloud-based integration between ATMS and the company’s Synchro plus SimTraffic Signal Timing and Simulation software.

The new software releases incorporate a cloud-based ‘wizard’ style interface, allowing agencies using ATMS to share controller database information with Synchro users, and for Synchro users to send revised signal timing plans to ATMS.

The operator is in complete control of the flow of information; the ATMS user views changes recommended by Synchro, controlling the decision of applying the recommended changes. For traffic engineers, this functionality speeds their ability to manage roadways as they work among two platforms simultaneously.

Other enhancements to ATMS version 2.8 include:

• Complete integration with SCOUT (V80) 2070 controller software and its advanced features in ATMS, with all parameters present, naming aligns with the controller, order of parameters in the controller, and reports support data from new SCOUT 2070 devices;

• User configurable timing sheets, including selection of individual categories, tables, and parameters;

• Ability to save a template with favorite selections per controller type and reuse them at a later time;

• Scan Screen incorporates a new tab with peer-to-peer details, which is available for SCOUT 2070 controllers.

There are an additional 16 updates, all generated from customer input and requests.

“A central goal of any enterprise software platform is to improve the performance of the enterprise using it. Central Management Systems are no exceptions,” said Jon Newhard, CEO of Trafficware. “By introducing business intelligence into this space, we are helping agencies do more with less, focusing limited resources on their most pressing problems by making those issues visible and easily-deduced.

“Likewise, the integration between Synchro Suite and ATMS is designed not only to improve signal timing by using real data, but also to save them valuable time. When you think about the 250 agencies using us for their Central Management Systems and all the Synchro users in 90 countries around the world, we hope we have given them some of their lives back.”

Trafficware’s product development director, Jeff Cornelius, added, “Transportation authorities invest in Synchro and ATMS because they want the latest technology and trust us to deliver a steady cadence of updates. Simply, they want confidence that their technology will grow with the future of smart cities.”
