TollPlus to deliver new back office collection system for North Texas Tollway Authority

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), which operates a network of tolled roads and infrastructure and provides tolling services for other toll projects in the area, has selected TollPlus to design, implement and maintain its new Back-Office Toll Collection System.

Arizona-based TollPlus will deliver a new back office system that will process all transponder and license plate sourced toll transactions on NTTA’s network and the other toll facilities in the region, as well as transponder-based parking at DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) International Airport and Dallas Love Field. NTTA’s network covers more than 1,000 lane miles (1,600km) and includes:

• Dallas North Tollway (DNT);

• President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT);

• Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT);

• Chisholm Trail Parkway (CTP);

• Addison Airport Toll Tunnel (AATT);

• Mountain Creek Lake Bridge (MCLB);

• Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge (LLTB);

• The 360 Tollway.

As a subsidiary of French company Vinci Highways, one of the world’s leading road concessionaires, TollPlus will use its global market expertise to deliver a robust and complex toll collection system for the NTTA. With a responsive and resilient new back office toll collection and processing system, the agency will be able to handle over six million transactions per day, roughly twice the volume handled today.

The new back office system will allow NTTA to meet current demands, handle projected transaction growth over the next 10 years, and help the agency meet the increasing mobility demands of the region. TollPlus will be responsible for providing project planning, design and testing, transition, data migration and installation of the new back office toll collection system, as well as post-implementation services and maintenance.

“After an intensive 18-month procurement process, which included a four-week proof-of-concept phase, we are pleased to select TollPlus to replace our existing legacy back office toll collection system. During the proof-of-concept, we spent over 80 hours reviewing the TollPlus Back-Office system, including 50 functional areas, as well as assessing overall technology, architecture and security components,” said James Hofmann, deputy executive director of NTTA.

“We look forward to working with TollPlus to implement a system that will further enhance our ability to provide exemplary customer service, offer new payment options, create efficiencies, and improve internal business operations.”

Sabu Stephen, director of IT at NTTA, noted, “After a rigorous selection process, we are pleased to select TollPlus to provide us with their back office system, which is built on highly scalable and secure architecture. During the proof-of-concept phase, their system processed our current transaction volume in record time.”

Suresh Kakarla, CEO of TollPlus, commented, “We will make the most of our in-depth experience to bring NTTA’s back office system to the next level, facilitating the flow of information, and easing the management of complex transactions. Together with Vinci Highways, our ambition is to allow NTTA to serve an ever-expanding community of drivers in North Texas.”

Jérôme Lejeune, executive director of ETC at Vinci Highways, added, “We are gaining strong momentum in the US tolling market. Our new contract with NTTA marks our third win in Texas during the last 12 months, after our commercial successes with CTRMA, NETRMA, and Pharr International Bridge.”
