Cloud-based performance measurement platform to be implemented in South Carolina

Iteris Inc., a leading US supplier of applied informatics systems for the transportation industry, has been awarded a five-year contract to provide its cloud-based performance measurement platform to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT).

SCDOT has awarded Iteris a US$1.8m contract to use the company’s iPeMS (Iteris Performance Measurement System) cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) platform to support its statewide transportation network’s performance management program until 2023.

In combination with real-time and historical traffic data supplied by the global mapping and location services provider Here Technologies, the iPeMS software platform will give SCDOT the ability to analyze and visualize traffic data to improve roadway mobility and safety across the state and support its 10-year infrastructure improvement plan.

The data is also available to support the state’s 511 traveler information service, which Iteris developed and has operated since 2013, including a website, mobile apps, and interactive voice response (IVR) telephone system.

Numerous government agencies and municipalities throughout North America, including the Utah, Virginia and California Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and the City of Toronto, use the iPeMS platform to manage, measure and optimize their complex transportation networks. The iPeMS software suite’s features include:

• Real-time maps to support traffic operations;

• Real-time bottlenecks to identify and help mitigate congestion;

• Animations to analyze events and optimize response plans;

• Historical trend and route reports, maps and congestion charts to track reliability and support planning;

• Dynamic route creation for easy analysis of any route in and around South Carolina.

Through analysis of Here’s live and historical traffic data, the iPeMS platform will also augment SCDOT’s existing 511 system, providing 24/7 real-time traveler information to drivers across the state.

“We are excited to be working with Iteris to improve the safety and efficiency of highways and arterial roads across the state,” said Rob Perry, traffic engineering director at SCDOT. “With both real-time and historical data from the iPeMS platform, our traffic operations, engineers and planners will have access to actionable insights that will support their operations and planning activities, as SCDOT continues its mission to improve the performance of the state’s roadways.”

Ramin Massoumi, general manager and senior vice president of transportation systems at Iteris, commented, “It is our honor and privilege to support both SCDOT’s 10-year highway improvement plan and to improve quality of life for South Carolina’s travelling public. With the implementation of our iPeMS platform, SCDOT will be able to apply big data to make South Carolina’s roads safer and more efficient statewide.”
