The Center for Advanced Transportation Technology Lab is an advanced transportation research and development laboratory at the University of Maryland, College Park. The CATT Lab’s research provides a bridge between the intelligent transportation systems (ITS) community and the information technology community. The CATT Lab specializes in data archiving, data retrieval and visualization, 3D modeling and simulation, software development, and other advanced technologies. The CATT Lab prides itself on being innovative and creative problem solvers with a strong will to “raise the bar” for the transportation R&D community. The primary resource of the CATT Lab is the interdisciplinary group of over 50 undergraduate and graduate researchers and talented staff.
Position description
The CATT Lab designs and manages large, continually updated transportation databases from national and state agencies. The CATT Lab is looking to hire a full time database administrator. Applicants will work with full time developers and student researchers to design and develop new, and maintain existing databases. Primary responsibilities include close interaction with application developers to establish managed development environments and assist in the deployment of applications to the production environment. In addition to daily DBA tasks, applicants will be responsible for writing of data retrieval queries and procedures, performing data analysis using custom built visualization tools, as well as development of data loading and visualization applications using several platforms and programming languages, such as J2EE, Flex, and PHP. Good communication skills, teamwork, and a “will to learn” are essential. Prior real-world experience with a DBMS, Java, web development, and software engineering practices is a plus.
Required skills
• Strong knowledge of relational database concepts;
• Database design, normalization, and management;
• Database installation and configuration in both Windows and Linux environments;
• Standard SQL syntax;
• Procedural language programming;
• An understanding of the software development life cycle.

• Backup and recovery.

• Oracle 9i or 10g
