Salary: US$81,460.00-US$125,926.00 a year
The candidate serves as a Highway Safety Specialist and reports to the Regional Administrator (RA) and Deputy Regional Administrator (DRA), Region 9. The regional office has regional responsibility for developing, improving and overseeing traffic safety programs, including those aimed at increasing safety belt and child restraint use and reducing the incidence of impaired driving, along with other programs that reduce traffic crashes, deaths, injuries, and property damage. Under the direction and guidance from the RA/DRA, incumbent implements strategies, programs, materials, and information for use by states, communities, and advocacy organizations to support traffic safety injury control programs. The candidate is responsible for providing technical assistance and advice to States, private and public sector organizations, and consumers regarding these traffic safety programs.
Major duties
• Develops background material, analyzes, and draft correspondence, as requested for the RA's/DRA's signature;
• Responds to a variety of correspondence from legislators, constituents, administrative officials, and the general public and prepares formal responses for requests for information from legislators and other government officials for the RA's/DRA's signature;
• Develops and manages program activities and provides technical assistance to states, communities, and advocacy groups in all facets of a comprehensive traffic safety prevention program, including the management of Federal grant funds and grant-funded activities;
• Implements, manage and oversee projects that demonstrate successful strategies for addressing traffic safety problems;
• Educate partners, constituents and stakeholders about the benefits of traffic safety countermeasures, and provide consultation and technical assistance to States, communities, and advocates on traffic safety issues and data trends.
Qualifications required
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you meet the experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.
To qualify, your experience should include experience equal or equivalent to the following:
Grade 12
• Experience developing, implementing, managing and/or overseeing projects, programs or grants that promote highway safety, motor vehicle safety and/or accident prevention or related programs;
• Experience reviewing and assessing operating programs, projects or grants that included plans, budgets, policies and/or procedures.
Grade 13
• Experience developing, implementing, managing and/or overseeing projects, programs or grants that promote highway safety, motor vehicle safety and/or accident prevention or related programs;
• Experience reviewing and assessing operating programs, projects or grants that included plans, budgets, policies and/or procedures;
• Experience providing program/project summary reports and/or experience preparing option papers or briefing to a variety of audiences.
