Bestmile and HMI to make Ohmio vehicles fleet-ready for fully automated mobility services

Swiss company Bestmile, which has developed one of the leading mobility services platforms used to plan, manage and optimize autonomous and human-driven fleets, has formed a partnership with leading New Zealand autonomous vehicle technology provider Ohmio Automotion.

Ohmio, a subsidiary of Australasian intelligent transportation systems (ITS) equipment supplier HMI Technologies, previously announced its collaboration with Korea’s Southwest Coast Enterprise City Development Co Ltd (SolaSeaDo) to provide 150 self-driving vehicles to the new urban development project.

Ohmio is supplying SolaSeaDo with its 20-person autonomous shuttle Lift, which can be extended to carry up to 40 passengers. HMI has commercialized its self-driving and ITS technologies with Ohmio autonomous vehicles, which are uniquely designed to connect with other vehicles, infrastructure and traffic management systems. This connectivity helps the vehicles achieve greater efficiency and safety while giving service providers, regulators and traffic managers greater control.

Bestmile offers the only platform of its kind that enables autonomous and human-driven vehicles of any brand or type to work together as fleets to deliver fixed-route and on-demand services. Public and private transport and transit service providers around the world have used the Bestmile Mobility Service Platform to quickly and easily plan, deploy, manage and optimize autonomous shuttle, robotaxi, ridehailing and micro-transit services.

The platform includes a complete set of operator and traveler software and mobile apps, enabling service providers to integrate new mobility services with existing operations and transit modes.

Bestmile empowers mobility providers to deploy, manage and optimize autonomous and human-driven vehicle fleets, supporting fixed-route and on-demand services, regardless of the vehicle brand or type. The mobility platform allows operators to support multi-modal, multi-service offerings in a safe and efficient manner by integrating autonomous vehicles in the existing transportation ecosystem, including deployments in pedestrian areas and on public roads.

“SolaSeaDo’s fleet of 150 autonomous shuttles may be the largest autonomous vehicle deployment in the world,” said Dean Zabrieszach, CEO of HMI Technologies. “Bestmile is an ideal partner to help Ohmio deliver a fully automated mobility service.”

Bestmile and its German autonomous vehicle partner HFM showcased a combination of the companies’ technologies during live demonstrations amid an ‘urban jungle’ at last week’s ITS World Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The integration of Bestmile’s Mobility Services Platform with HFM’s Motionboard enables the vehicles to be managed as fleets and deliver next-generation mobility services. HFM’s Motionboard is a completely customizable autonomous vehicle chassis, drive-by wire system, engine and sensors, that can now be managed as intelligent fleets using the Bestmile platform.

Bestmile’s CEO and cofounder, Raphael Gindrat, said, “The ITS demonstration and our partnership with HFM showcases our vehicle agnostic platform and our ability to enable shared on-demand services. Similarly, Bestmile and HMI/Ohmio share a commitment to safe, stress-free, sustainable mobility for everyone. Together, we can provide mobility service providers everything they need to deliver next-generation autonomous shuttle services.”
