Regina Hopper leaves ITS America to join Gridsmart Technologies

The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) board of directors has accepted the resignation of the organization’s president and CEO, Regina Hopper, with effect from the end of July 31, and will begin an executive search for a replacement.

ITS America has announced that David St Amant (below), affiliate principal of CAVita, will assume responsibilities on an interim basis to ensure a smooth transition while the board selects a new president and CEO.

Hopper (left) is leaving to become senior vice president of global public policy for Knoxville, Tennessee-based Gridsmart Technologies, developers of the iconic bell-shaped fisheye lens camera and Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). Hopper will be based in Washington DC.

Chris Murray, the chairman of ITS America’s board of directors, said, “On behalf of the ITSA Board, we thank Regina for her strong leadership and many contributions to our industry over the past two years. The board appreciates Regina’s leadership and wishes her the best in her next role. We are excited for the future of ITS America as we continue our work as the leading advocate for the modernization of our transportation system, by focusing on advancing research and deployment of intelligent transportation systems. We will continue to build on the advancements Regina put in place during her tenure.”

Hopper commented, “I am honored to have been presented this new opportunity to continue to drive public policy and support this innovative and quickly evolving industry. I have a profound appreciation for the time I have spent at ITS America, and am thrilled that this new position will allow me to continue to work with innovators in the private and public sectors who are advancing intelligent transformational transportation technologies.

“Between now and my departure date, I look forward to transitioning the great work at ITS America to incoming interim president and CEO David St Amant. There are few innovations garnering more attention, and that have greater potential to transform our lives, than intelligent and transformational transportation technologies.

"I am proud of the work we have accomplished in positioning ITS America to continue to lead the intelligent transportation discussion, and I look forward in my next role to supporting the next generation of safe, equitable, sustainable, efficient, and productive transportation systems.”
