TagMaster group acquires UK's CA Traffic to expand its smart city portfolio

TagMaster, a leading Swedish supplier of advanced RFID (radio frequency identification) products and ALPR (automatic license plate recognition) cameras for vehicle identification within the transportation industry, has completed the acquisition of the UK company CA Traffic from Hill & Smith Holdings, for a total cash consideration of £3m (US$3.8m).

CA Traffic was established in 1994 and is a leading traffic monitoring company in the UK market, offering equipment ranging from basic pneumatic tube counter classifiers through to full real-time ITS software systems, an array of sensor products, and high specification ALPR cameras. It has provided traffic monitoring devices to UK local authorities for almost 25 years, and supplied intelligent ALPR camera systems to UK police forces since 2010. The company is dedicated to product development, and in recent years has continued to grow with the addition of the Black Cat Outstation, the Evolution range of ALPR cameras and market leading radar monitoring systems.

Based in Stockholm, TagMaster is an application driven technology company that designs and markets advanced identification systems based on RFID and ALPR technology. Its innovative mobility systems are sold under the brands TagMaster, Balogh, and CitySync, the former Image Sensing Systems’ (ISS) ALPR business unit, which it acquired in 2015 to increase its Smart Cities range. TagMaster has dedicated agencies in the USA and China and exports mainly to Europe, Middle East, Asia and North America via a global network of partners, systems integrators and distributors.

“We are excited about this important step in our growth strategy and we will, together with CA Traffic, become a stronger player in the traffic and Smart City solutions market,” noted Jonas Svensson, TagMaster’s CEO. “There are clear and immediate synergies between CA Traffic and CitySync, and with our combined expertise we believe we have an excellent opportunity to become one of the main players in the fast-growing international ALPR market. We will also take full advantage of CA’s technical expertise in traffic monitoring products, starting with our Nordic and French home markets, and we will also be able to increase our presence in a growing US infrastructure market.”

Bernard Greene, CA Traffic’s MD, commented, “We have been working with CitySync for some years and are now very pleased to be joining the TagMaster group. We recognize and welcome the strength that the union will bring to both brands and the synergies that are immediately apparent with the other TagMaster companies.”
