Crystal Group releases Intel-based rugged all-weather server for autonomous vehicles

To meet the growing demand for highly reliable technology on the Internet of Things (IoT), Crystal Group Inc., a leading designer/manufacturer of rugged computer hardware, has developed a rugged server that is able to withstand extreme temperature variations for use in connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs).

Crystal’s new RS363S15F Rugged 3U Server meets autonomous vehicle and automotive market needs for high-performance processing and data storage in a rugged, compact form factor. The development of components capable of meeting thermal and other harsh environment standards required by CAVs further establishes the company as a leader in the growing AV market and the IoT space. Crystal Group’s RS363S15F server unit is powered by Intel processors, and is just one example of an agile and rugged system with applications for the commercial CAV market. Already leaders in technology of unmanned systems for the military, Crystal and Intel have been working with other technology companies and major automotive OEMs as part of the Intel Internet of Things Solutions Alliance to build systems to support the entire driverless vehicle ecosystem.

The RS363S15F Rugged 3U Server from Crystal provides high-performance computing and high-capacity data storage in a small size, weight, and power (SWaP) package, with a depth under 15in (38.1cm) to fit virtually any space. Several major automotive manufacturers have already selected this rugged and reliable server for use in autonomous vehicles. The RS363S15F is ideal for automotive, aerospace and defense, government, industrial, IoT and smart city, security, transportation, utility and power applications. The off-the-shelf RS363S15F Rugged 3U Server is now available with an Intel Xeon processor and Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (Intel AVX), 1024GB of DDR4 memory, and support for a variety of popular firmware and operating systems, including Linux and Microsoft Windows.

Crystal Group also designs and manufactures custom hardware systems for AV and other applications, tapping commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components from Intel, NVIDIA, and other industry leaders. The company is proud to be on the forefront of design and development for intelligent devices and analytics for the expanding CAV market. As the world becomes more connected, real-time data processing becomes more complex and difficult. These connected systems are capable of gathering data from several sources, including rear-view and dashboard video cameras, vehicle telemetry, road conditions, and GPS location. Data gathered from these systems will be used to develop practical applications for autonomous vehicles.
