Preliminary program announced for Autonomous Vehicle Test & Development Symposium 2017

The preliminary program has now been announced for the world’s only international conference exclusively dedicated to the testing and validation of autonomous vehicles and highly automated vehicle technologies, as the AV Test & Development Symposium returns to Stuttgart, Germany, in June 2017.

Since advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) gave rise to the development of fully automated driving technologies, it has been clear that the widespread use of fully autonomous self-driving vehicles is set to become a reality on the world’s roads in the next few years.

However, the final stages of testing, validation and fail-safe approval for these vehicles pose a huge challenge to the global automotive industry. The rigorousness and thoroughness of the testing processes need to be conducted at an altogether higher level of fidelity than anything that has gone before, if the final reality is to be achieved with complete safety and integrity guaranteed.

With this in mind, Autonomous Vehicle Test & Development Symposium 2017 will bring together the world’s leading engineers in the field of autonomous vehicle research, testing, validation and development, in what will be the most important conference of the year on automated vehicle development. The conference will be held in Stuttgart, Germany, alongside Automotive Testing Expo Europe 2017, the world’s largest exhibition dedicated to new vehicle development and testing, and in conjunction with Traffic Technology International magazine, the world’s leading magazine for advanced highway and traffic management technologies.

If fully automated driving systems are to become a successful commercial reality rather than merely a technically feasible novelty, car buyers who have been slow to buy into the early benefits of driver assistance technologies will demand unparalleled levels of proof that the testing processes have left no scope for errors or failures.

This conference is therefore focused entirely on the test and validation processes, and it will bring together collective thought and experience to review the mechanisms needed. After all, these will have to provide the highest level of assurance to legislators, highway authorities and car buyers. The Symposium will boast over 60 of the world’s leading experts in driverless vehicle testing, covering a multitude of topics, including:
• Public road testing;
• Virtual testing;
• Simulation;
• Traffic scenario testing;
• Embedded software testing;
• Reliability testing of software and hardware systems;
• Safety and crash testing;
• Fail-safe testing;
• Cyber threat testing;
• Validation and verification;
• Autonomy software;
• VeHIL;
• V2V and V2X testing;
• Robotics;
• Testing legislation;
• Safety standards and legislation;
• Human factors and HMI testing;
• Case studies;
• Possibilities;
• Best practices.
