New video showcases different systems from European ecoDriver project

The European ecoDriver project has released a video showcasing the different systems different systems developed and trialed in the program, and an introduction from the project coordinator, Oliver Carsten, from the University of Leeds (UK) (below).

The tour of seven of the project test sites gets comment from partners in Vigo, Versailles, Turin, Munich, Versailles, Stuttgart and Amsterdam. The four-year EUR14.5m (US$15.7m) integrated project started in October 2011 and will conclude at the end of September this year. The scheme received EUR10.7m (US$11.6m) in co-funding from the European Commission’ DG INFSO, 7th Framework Program.

The ecoDriver project aims to: achieve a 20% reduction of CO2 emissions and fuel consumption in road transport by delivering effective green driving advice and feedback; maximize system effectiveness and acceptance by adapting the eco-driving human-machine interfaces (HMI) including graphical interfaces, haptics, and voice messages, to the driving style, such as ‘relaxed’ or ‘sportive’, variable traffic conditions, conventional, hybrid or electrical powertrains, and all forms of vehicle type, including passenger cars, vans, trucks, and buses.

The project also aims to: test and compare the effectiveness of nomadic and built-in navigation systems in encouraging green driving; maintain or even enhance driver safety, while providing eco-driving support; scale-up the results obtained from test trials to Europe, and carry out a social cost-benefit analysis to assess the economic feasibility of a potential market deployment of the ecoDriver system; and explore how eco-driving related CO2 reductions might be affected by different future technological, political, and lifestyle scenarios.
