Sensebit wins agreement in Norway

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) has selected Sensebit to help further develop its collection of road traffic data. The Swedish company will deliver systems for both continuous and periodic data collection on national and country roads for all the regions and departments within the NPRA's jurisdiction. The NPRA is responsible for gathering traffic data on the national and county road network in Norway, which takes place at both fixed data collection sites with continuous monitoring throughout the year, and non-fixed sites with periodic traffic data collection. The government agency is revising its traffic data collection system for increased efficiency in conjunction with the '2013-2018 Traffic Data Action Plan'. The overall goal of the new system is to achieve high quality data for both statistics and real-time observations, which will be achieved by an extensive replacement of the existing roadside data collection equipment.

The NPRA has chosen Sensebit's STMS ED-100 vehicle detector from for use within its data collection network. The ED-100 enables high quality real-time data collection, a quicker installation and less maintenance than inductive loops. The company's framework agreement with the NPRA is valid for two years, with an option of extending the agreement by a further two years. Fredrik Zettergren, Sensebit's CEO, said, “We are very proud to be selected by the NPRA from among the 11 companies that competed for the contract. The NPRA has long been at the forefront of modern traffic data collection and will push the frontier even further with the new system.” Anders Godal Holt, head of the ITS section at the NPRA, commented, “Sensebit has offered a winning combination of a good price and good understanding of the assignment. They provide good documentation about the quality of registrations and they were ranked highly in their understanding of the assignment.”
