ATS highlights notable contracts

American Traffic Solutions (ATS) has announced its half-yearly results for 2013, which highlights notable contract awards from Atlanta, Chicago, and Orange County that total more than 680 potential red-light, speed and school bus safety cameras. In Chicago, the company was awarded the city’s ‘Children’s Safety Zone Program’ after a lengthy procurement process, which included a head-to-head technology and service demonstration, and evaluation where it was the “unanimous choice”. Speed safety cameras will soon be installed near schools and parks in the city, in order to deter speeding for the protection of children and other pedestrians.

Atlanta Public Schools selected ATS to install its CrossingGuard school bus safety cameras, which are mounted on the outside of school buses and capture images and video of vehicles that illegally pass a bus, when it is stopped to allow children to get on or off. Last year, more than 7,300 vehicles illegally passed stopped school buses in Georgia in a single day, according to a survey of bus drivers. The city of Atlanta also selected the company to operate its red-light safety camera program, replacing the current vendor. Orange County in Florida chose the company to install and operate up to 80 red-light safety cameras. The company was also awarded contracts in: Kent, Washington State; Tucson, Arizona; Washington County, Maryland; Falls Church, Virginia; Paulding County School District, Georgia; Pembroke Pines, Florida; and Saskatoon in Canada.

“We are honored to partner with these communities and school districts, as they work to increase driver awareness and enhance traffic safety in their areas,” said Adam Tuton, president of state and local government solutions for ATS. “Drivers who speed, run red lights or illegally pass stopped school buses put themselves and innocent children and others in life-threatening danger. Road safety cameras are proven to reduce this danger, by changing driver behavior and decreasing the number and severity of collisions and injuries on the road.”
