Cloud-computing consultancy, Mylaensys, has announced the launch of a new electronic parking payment service, ParknCloud, which allows users to pay for parking with a smartphone. The new system, which uses the latest Geoparking technology, is due to be introduced in major West Coast cities in September and will be extended to other USA cities later in the year. The parking service is accessed through the cell phone’s browser and has the look and feel of a normal App and features user-friendly button icons and screens, which allow quick and easy operation. Due to the Geoparking technology, the user is able to identify where the parking service is available, obtain the parking rate, purchase parking time and extend an active parking session. Should the user return to their vehicle before parking time expires, credits are debited only for the actual time used, based on a ‘Pay-As-You-Go’ system. It also includes a text reminder feature that can be activated, which sends an SMS message 15 minutes before the parking time expires, so that parking can be extended at will.
ParknCloud is a ‘cloud computing’ system, delivered as Software as a Service (SaaS) and is hosted on the Google Cloud Infrastructure. This means that there is no high software investment required or ongoing maintenance costs for municipalities. It also offers the flexibility to scale the service in line with demand. The infrastructure behind the system provides a high level of security, reliability and supports millions of users. Dina Douglas, Mylaensys account manager for the San Diego area, commented, “A common objective across municipalities is to reduce costs, increase efficiencies and improve the services they offer. ParknCloud is the perfect solution to deliver all of these. This service is truly quick and efficient. Paying for parking will never be the same again!”
