Iteris has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) seeking a sponsor for Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) 511 NaviGAtor traveler information system. ‘Georgia 511’ is a sponsor-supported public service that is operated by GDOT, which can be accessed via an internet site or by phone, by dialing ‘511’ anywhere in the state. The system improves transportation mobility and safety by providing travelers with real-time, route-specific travel information, which identifies: traffic incidents; roadworks; construction sites; congestion; and road weather conditions across the state.
Iteris, through its subsidiary Meridian Environmental Technology, has been the exclusive supplier of Georgia’s 511 systems since 2006. Considered an innovator in the Advanced Traffic Information System (ATIS) industry, the company currently operates 511 systems in 11 states. The company developed and implemented the first successful sponsorship model for a statewide traveler information system for GDOT in 2009. The RFP seeks to secure an exclusive program sponsor, or sponsors of individual 511 NaviGAtor mediums, to continue the delivery and expansion of 511 services to travelers in Georgia.
The sponsorship opportunities of the 511 NaviGAtor systems includes: the 511 telephone system, which receives 1.6-2 million calls annually; the 511 website, which exceeds 3 million hits annually; over 600 roadway signs across the state, reaching more than 3 million vehicles per day; and soon to be released cell phone applications for Apple and Android platforms.
