Swarco gets ETL safety approval

Swarco Traffic Americas has announced that its FUTURLUX range of LED roadway lighting systems have been awarded the Intertek ETL (Electrical Testing Labs) safety approval mark. The ETL Listed Mark is proof of product compliance for electrical, gas and other safety standards, which includes all USA and Canadian safety standards, including UL, ANSI, CSA, ASTM and NFPA. The FUTURLUX range is an alternative to conventional illumination techniques, allowing significantly reduced power consumption and major energy-savings. It features: up to 80% energy saving compared to other lighting technologies; dimming features with centralized voltage lowering or with phase switching, locally with programmable dimmer; Multi-Layer-Lighting-Technology, which prevents dark spots on the road; three different light distributions using narrow, wide and wet road reflectors, for a wide range of applications; high-power LEDs with more than 125 lm/W; and easy installation and maintenance.

Swarco says the FUTURLUX range was designed from the outset to incorporate advanced controls and management capabilities, allowing it to link to the company’s intelligent traffic management system or other control and guidance systems. The Austrian company says the ETL approval is a key milestone in its efforts to build a USA operation. Frank Harder, CEO of Swarco Traffic Americas Inc, said, “We’ve gone from zero to one-hundred in six months; opening our new USA headquarters, building a team, getting our FUTURLUX manufacturing in California off the ground and getting the product ETL approved for use throughout the country.” Jim Helmer, director of strategy at Swarco, agreed, “Municipalities and building owners are very enthusiastic about our ETL approved FUTURLUX for two key reasons. First, with embedded communications technology and controls, the LED lighting range delivers enhanced safety, monitor and control capabilities and environmental benefits. Second, it delivers 100 lumens per watt at the system level, resulting in energy reductions up to 80%.”
