Atkins wins consultancy contract in Wiltshire, UK

Wiltshire County Council has awarded Atkins with the contract to provide technical support for the maintenance and management of the county’s highways. The five-year contract is believed to be worth between £4-5 million (US$6-7.7 million) and is subject to a mandatory 10 day ‘cooling off’ period. A number of consultancy companies were interested in bidding for the contract and cabinet members reviewed the results of the tendering process before awarding the highways consultancy contract, which is to provide specialist technical advice and support in a number of areas. The specialist advice provided by Atkins will include: bridge design; major highway reconstruction and surfacing; traffic engineering; transport planning; supervising contractors’ work; street lighting maintenance; and achieving green targets. The services had previously been provided to the council by consultants, Mouchel.

Dick Tonge, cabinet member for highways and transport, said, “It is vital we can access the very best technical knowledge to ensure Wiltshire’s roads are safe and meet the traffic demands. We selected Atkins on the basis that they meet the criteria on both quality and cost and will complement our in-house team, providing the right level of expertise to achieve the environmental improvements to our roads in Wiltshire.
