Golden River Traffic (GRT), which is part of the Clearview Traffic Group, has been awarded a 22-year contract to continue maintaining the Traffic Measuring Equipment sites that monitor traffic flows across the Sirhowy Enterprise Way DBFO in Caerphilly, Wales. The Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) project strengthens the strategic highway network in the Sirhowy Valley and enters the Business Park at its western end. There is approximately 4.3km (2.7 miles) of single carriageway roads, including two key cross valley links to the north and south of Blackwood, with the northern link across the Chartist Bridge. The scheme improves access to local communities and amenities along the A4048/A472 strategic highway network and provides a new direct access route to Oakdale Business Park. GRT has been working alongside Sirhowy Enterprise Way Limited since the start of the scheme, and has been awarded the contract extension due to its ‘hands-on’ approach in the maintenance of the project and the delivery of the expected levels of traffic data accuracy and reliability.
Neal Devoil, general manager at John Laing Investments explained, “Sirhowy Enterprise Way have just completed a six year contract with GRT to provide and maintain seven Traffic Measuring Equipment sites on the Project Road, during which time there have only been two instances where the equipment has become unavailable. GRT have always been most proactive in identifying any equipment malfunctions and implementing measures to rectify the problems, which has resulted in data loss being kept to a minimum. In addition, GRT have closely adhered to monthly reporting requirements and verification dates, with good working procedures demonstrated that have enabled SEW Ltd, and our client Caerphilly County Borough Council, to establish a positive and trusting working relationship. Based upon proven track record over the last six years, SEW have negotiated a further agreement to reappoint GRT as Traffic Measuring Equipment Contractor for the remainder of this DBFO Contract, which expires in January 2034.”
