UK Highways Agency outsources IT infrastructure

Atos Origin, an international IT services company, has been contracted by the UK Highways Agency to manage its information technology provision and infrastructure. By outsourcing to Atos Origin, the Highways Agency hopes to save a minimum of 15% of its IT budget.

The five-year contract is worth a reported US$150 million (£75 million) and will see the Agency’s 120 staff and contractors transferred to Atos Origin. Under the change, the Agency’s infrastructure will be transformed and applications, including on-going support of a complex suite of back office applications, will be managed. The Atos Workplace Solutions platform will be deployed to enable software to be uploaded and problems solved remotely.

Anne Ware, head of public sector at Atos Origin, says, “This contract consolidates Atos Origin’s position as leading provider to both the UK public sector and the transport industry. We are committed to delivering sustainable services to our clients and will work with the Highways Agency to ensure that technology enables them to meet their business aspirations.”
